An eclectic house tour filled with treasures from travels

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, January 10, 2012

This UK home is brimming with personality. Most of the work, painting, etc., was done by the home owners, and most of the decor has special meaning.

It looks like all of their books, even the ones in the dining room, are arranged by spine color.

Her home office is probably my favorite.  Simple, but pretty.

Love the mantle!

A home with simple beauty and understated elegance

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, June 13, 2011

It's hard to pull off humble/simple and elegant, but I think this home was successful. Check it out:

eclectic objects add warmth

dark purple is always chic

love how the books are displayed!

a spacious hall with a picture ledge

inspiration simply tacked on the wall keeps the space from being stuffy - and it's so cool how the images extend into the next room

Modern interiors in ancient homes

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, May 03, 2011

I LOVE old, historic homes. The character, the charm, the history, and the quality of craftsmanship far surpass the cookie cutter houses most of us have to settle for. What I also love is to see how people of today integrate modern technologies and furnishings into houses built long before those technologies were ever dreamed up.

A home in Sri Lanka - I like that so many of the original architectural elements haven't been tampered with.

Love this bathroom and bedroom - check out the nooks above the desk

the 3 images above are from another Sri Lanka home.

This kitchen is one of my favorites. I love exposed beams, and these have been painted yellow to brighten up the place.

LOVE the stone with a modern take on a classic chair. Gorgeous. From another Provence home.

What do you think? Do you live in an old home? What do you love about it? If you don't, would you like to live in one?

A STUNNER of a house. Clean design without being boring

Posted by MAKMU ta On Wednesday, November 03, 2010

This is one of the best house tours I've ran across lately. I think the design is unique in that so much right now is french country or retro. I like the super polished look of this, but the colors and furnishings keep it cozy. What do you think?

Love the architectural elements
