Chevron Pillows

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, February 07, 2012

I was making my usual weekly Target run.  I always check out the home section.  It's a must.  I have an incurable itch to changing things around the house.  They are remodeling the Target near me so it looks like they are trying to get rid of a lot of items.  Many of them are clearance.  I came across these babies.

They are Dwell Studio and have a zippered cover.  Can you believe they were marked down to $7.00?  I started to get one to see how I would like it but immediately grabbed another just in case I did.  Good thing I got two because the rest were gone when I ran back in the next day.

Finally got my chevron and in the perfect color too.

Family Room Updates

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, December 26, 2011

I originally used solid pillows for the family room.  I liked them for a while but they were so plain and it was starting to bug me.  I started the hunt for fabrics that were the same colors but would add more dimension to the space.  I told you before going into a fabric store is overwhelming for me.  I start to grab everything I like but I usually walk out empty handed.

I had come across Online Fabric Store though an online search.  They have really good prices and have some of the same fabrics you would find in Joann's or Hancock.  It was good for me since I can search at my speed and not have to rush into buying something.  I found some Waverly fabric that I loved.  It uses the same blue tone but has a pattern.  It is the Chippendale Fretwork.

I mixed this pattern with an Ikat pillow cover from Pottery Barn.  No, not an actual Pottery Barn pillow cover.  I made my own using one of their napkins.  No one says I can't have Pottery Barn look without the Pottery Barn price.  If you notice, most of their napkins and tablecloths coordinate with the pillow covers.

I also found this little faux leather stool at TJ Maxx on clearance.  I didn't know where I would use it but I couldn't resist the price at $5.  It was originally $50!  For right now, he's under the window.

TJ Maxx was having a MAJOR clearance that day.  I walked up and a lady had already claimed most of the furniture.  Upholstered chairs were marked $25 down from $150 and she had a couple nightstands that were also unbelievably low.  Had I been a few minutes earlier, they would have been mine.  I got a few other pieces as well.  I love clearance.  Now whenever I go in there, I hit the clearance section hoping someone got happy with the pricing gun again.

I also changed up the paintings in the breakfast area.  The before pictures were nice but they didn't have enough color.  We were able to find some that had blues and reds and worked with the modern feel of our home.

Now the reds and blues are mixing nicely in here.

That little something..

Posted by MAKMU ta On Sunday, October 23, 2011

I think that every photo or space has that little something.  The something that makes it great.  For this space it is truly the way that the pillow contrasts with the rest of the space.  It is so necessary but at the same time so different from everything going on in there.  I love that little something....

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!  I am having trouble not working.. you know how it is when you feel like you should be doing something constructive but everyone around you is rebelling?  That is how this weekend is going...

Sweet Girl's Room: No Sew Pillows

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I knew for the girl's room I wanted to add some throw pillows to give her some more color.  She also likes to sit and lay on them.  I found some fabrics at Hancock that matched her room colors perfectly.  I don't sew (although I intend to buy a sewing machine in the near future), so I go no-sew all the way.

You'll need:
Fabric
Fusible Web ( I use Stitch Witchery)
Iron
Scissors

1 - Measure the pillow you are going to cover with fabric.  My pillow is 19 inches wide.

2 - Measure and cut the fabric an inch larger than your pillow.  This will allow a half inch seam around the edge.  I only did this for the face of the pillow.  I cut the piece at 20 inches.

3 - The remaining piece will be longer.  My original piece of fabric was 44 inches wide so my remaining piece is 24 inches.  You can cut it down the middle or more to the side.  This will be the back side with the envelope to insert your pillow.  I cut my pieces to 16 inches and 8 inches.

4 - Fold the opening edges in half an inch, insert your fusible web, and bond using the iron.

5 - Lay the face of the pillow up and lay the back pieces down.  The pattern sides should be facing each other.

6 - Insert a strip of fusible web all the way around and bond your pieces together.

7 - Let your pillow cover cool off a while before turning inside out.  This allows it to set.  Turn inside out, insert pillow, and voila!  A nice new pillow.

Yay!  More color, pattern, and a place to lounge.
