Trends: Maps

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, February 10, 2012

I've never been much into geography but I guess if I needed to know where a place was, I could follow this emerging trend.

How about maps on the wall?

Do you have any maps in your home decor?

I think animal prints are one of those things you either love or hate.  Its boldness can definitely add some flare to a room.  Check out these spaces.

Have you done any animal prints in your home?

Trends: Gallery Walls

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, January 06, 2012

Gallery walls seem to be popping up all over the place.  I like the simpleness and ease of creating art on the wall with your photos or artwork.

Being Brook has a nice display in her playroom.

From Gardners 2 Bergers has a gorgeous wall full of DIY art.

I love the space A Soft Place to Land created for her child's art.  Check out the chalk board!

Simcoe Street added one to her kitchen.

This wall display is expansive.  It was put together by Twenty Something.  It took some time and planning but it was well worth it.

I love the wall The Creative Imperative did in her son's room.  I especially love the personalized subway art.

Just a Touch of Gray transformed a wall in her hallway.

It's Great to Be Home created a collection in her den.

Have you tried a gallery wall?  Any tips for those wanting to try one?

Trends: Knock Offs

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, December 23, 2011

I think this is one of my favorite trends right now.  Some of us look through the Pottery Barn pages or Restoration Hardware catalog and want those things.  I would have to sell my house, kid, and husband to get the things I see in some of those home decor magazines.  The next best thing is to re-create those things yourself.

The Evolution of Home created this great Pottery Barn canvas.

How awesome is this Pottery Barn circles votive by Simply Sarah.

I love the Pottery Barn lamp by The Thrifty Abode.

Who hasn't wanted to make one of Pottery Barn's beautiful chandelier's?  Well Jenspire did and it's hard to tell it's not the real thing.

Check out this West Elm chandelier made by A Happy Place Called Home.

That's My Letter created a cute Restoration Hardware alphabet art as a child's gift.  So cute, I may have to try this one.

I love these Ballard Designs numbered tags by The Country Chic Cottage.  Guess what they're made of.

These ladies have shown you can have the luxury look without the luxury price tag.

Let's see what inspired pieces you've done.

Trends: Painted Rugs

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, December 09, 2011

This week is painted rugs.  I have yet to do my own for fear of ruining a perfectly good piece but these girls make me want to do it.

Here are some great pieces I found.

Adventures of An Almost 40 Year Old Intern painted this fabulous pink rug.

Sew Dang Cute Crafts made a beautiful trellis rug.

I love the brightness and bold pattern of this rug by Birdhouse.

Charm Home painted this rug for her child's nursery.

How cute are the footprints on this rug over at Happy Looks Good On You

I would happily take this striped rug made by Tatertots and Jello.

Love the zebra painted rug by J and J Home inspired by West Elm.

Pretty Handy Girl painted a bamboo rug in a pretty floral all by hand.

Have you painted rug?

Trends: Painted Furniture

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, December 02, 2011

The easiest way to update anything is paint.  Paint changes the look and if you're unhappy, paint it again.  Check out how these ladies used the power of paint to transform their furniture pieces.

Meg and Mum's painted this dresser and chair.  Love the pop of pink against the black.  The fabric is nice too.

This table by Fab Rehab Creations would fit so well in my family room.

Look at this red beauty by The Frosted Gardner.

Petticoat Junktion gave this wardrobe a vintage look.

Love the biblical message on this dresser by Kammy's Korner.

Creatively Living painted an upholstered chair.  Wow.  I've passed by so many chairs because I didn't want to re-cover them but never thought to paint them.

Here's another painted chair from Jilly and Mia.  So elegant.

Love the painted bar stools by The Casablanca Transformation.  They look great in her kitchen.

I love that A Charming Nest made the Ikea Rast her own with some paint and stain.

Have you changed any furniture with paint lately?
