{Vignette} Christmas Buffet

Posted by MAKMU ta On Thursday, December 01, 2011

Welcome back to day 2 of our Christmas Cheer in the Blogosphere link parties!
Today Courtney is hosting our Holiday Vignette party.  This could be a window box, piano, coffee table, dining table, or buffet...anything that has an arrangement of Christmas decor.
I'm here sharing what our dining room buffet looks like this season.  It's simple, very inexpensive {only cost us $7 for the branches!} and wintery.

First I bought these snow covered branches at Michael's and put them in this clear vase full of snow.  To get the branches to stay, I tied a rubber band around the bottom, filled the vase with paper towel {since that is sturdier than snow} to balance the branches.  I topped the vase off with lots of fake snow, and there ya have it!

Then, I put everything together.
The keys to a great vignette {or accessorizing any shelf, buffet or the like} are:
1. Varying heights
2. Varying textures and shapes
3. Personalize
4. Don't over do it!

To create height, I stacked some Christmas book on top of each other and placed our crystal candle holders and DIY glitter candles on the books.  The branches create much needed height on the right side of the buffet, as well as add some fun snowy texture.  We personalized with our family photos- one of me and my brother, and one of the four of us in the snow from when we were little! Great memories (:

A little bit of fresh greenery adds the finishing touch to this Holiday Vignette!
Have you put together any vignettes around your home yet?

Making the details count

Posted by MAKMU ta On Thursday, August 25, 2011

I love the little "moments" in a person's home where you just have to stand and let your eye travel around the nook, shelf, or table top where you find the little details that speak volumes about the owner.

I think these shelves are from the home of Jen Ramos of Made by Girl

Love the wallpaper on the back of the shelves - you can tell this person has a feminine aesthetic and pays great attention to detail.

Possibly the most adorable and chic little kitchen ever.

This glam and fabulous home is that of designer couple Jamie and Larry. They both have a love of natural objects and industrial style and have carefully edited their home to reflect just that.

Did you ever think a kitchen could be so glamorous?

Piano Vignette

Posted by MAKMU ta On Sunday, December 12, 2010

Hi friends! I'm just in time to link up to Rhoda's vignette party! Today we finished decorating our piano for Christmas.  The piano is my very favorite thing in our house, even though I don't play much anymore. It's almost 100 years old and was given to us to house for my old piano teacher until her son has the space for it in his house.  So grateful she chose us to watch over it!  I'm really liking how the decorations came out.  My mom and I took a trip to Pottery Barn for a few things: the little tree and birdie.  Pottery Barn always gives me the best feeling when I walk in.  It's definitely my style.  I adore the rustic elements of burlap, wood, and neutrals they have all over, combined with the prettiest, most elegant chandeliers and all things luxurious.  Anyways, here's how our little Christmas Vignette turned out:

I love how this adds height and nature to our little piano area.  And the best part is it can stay out through all of the winter season!

Pottery Barn has some great little ornaments on sale that we hung on the tree.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! I'm so excited for this next week, because we have the pleasure of hearing from Cassie, Courtney, and Michelle!

Love and Pianos,
