The residence on a cliffside lot in Gig Harbour, Washington was designed by Architect
Scott Allen while a still named principal at
Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen. The programme of the house is inverted as one descends stairs to the water interspersed by a series of decks, terraces, and bridges that create spaces for living and entertaining. The palette of materials were selected for their abilities to withstand this marine environment, including copper, concrete and cedar.

Architects Cubed (Linda Moore & Shawna Beechley) with landscape by
Talma Mill Studios is a modern interpretation of
the Chattel - a timber vernacular house native to Barbados.

Located on Sentosa Island in Singapore the residence named by its siting along Cove Way, was designed by architects
Bedmar & Shi. Two thick, heavy and rough stone walls define and ground the front entrance of the house under the dappled shadows created by the large over-hanging timber trellised canopy.
Recalling somewhat the stone walled buildings in his native Argentina, Ernesto Bedmar is able with this project to redefine and modernize his tropical language and spatial organization while still echoing traditions of craft of the region.
The sequence of circulation of the house, punctuated by full story voids, gradually reveal space after space, with dramatic transitions of light and shadow, and enclosure and release - opening the entire "sourthern" facade framing views of the marina.

Designed by Mexican Architect
Hernandez Silva, Casa Parades Tres Ocho in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Mexico. The two-story tropical moderne residence attempts to veil itself from the climatically harsh and public exterior. The house utilizes different textures and materials in their natural state - concrete, glass, wood, lava stone and water, to create varying levels of transparencies. Internally, spaces are linked by two circulation spines that cross over large voids within the large container.

This is a modern three story Residence in Filothei, Athens, by
Gem Architects. The carved volume of the house creates covered terraces and shades to the windows. Constructed of black lava stone and thin wooden louvers the details offer protection to the open and naturally ventilated interiors.

Wallflower Architecture + Design the Travertine Dream House is located in Tai Yuan Heights in Serangoon, Singapore. The house is organized as two parallel blocks with the interstitial space in-between allows daylight to penetrate all the spaces below. The house is designed with heat gain on the western elevation. Gardens and shallow pools of water are spread throughout the house, blurring the interior with the landscape.

The 25th street residence is a 260m
2 home in Santa Monica, California by architects
Shimizu + Coggeshall. The modern addition was meant to simultaneously contrast and complement the original 1920’s suburban residence. The small unused spaces were reconfigured to handle a variety of programme and improve the relationship with the outdoors.

Built around an existing three bedroom house on a 400m
2 steeply sloping site built by the client in the early eighties, the stacked house is a three bedroom addition designed by Architecture Paradigm for his son’s family. The design examines three generations co-existing on the same property while retaining their personal identities. The house establishes a strong relationship with the outdoor spaces to maximize the already tight urban conditions.

The near 450m2 Summer House in Menorca, Spain designed by Pablo Serrano Elorduy of
Dom Arquitectura seeks to engage the surroundings and views to marry the internal and external spaces. Inspired by the
tanca - stone walls typical to Menorca, the site is organized orthogonally combining floors, water, trees, plants, decks and of course walls constructed of local stone.

Located on an ironshore bluff on the Caribbean coast of Grand Cayman, the house is formed as a response to the nature of the site. The house, designed by architects
YAR+D, is set on the highest point on a narrow plot, is oriented to receive the tradewinds via a clerestory of fixed louvres. The material palette of flat white paint and glistening dark plaster grounds the house to its environs and within the evolving idiom of Caribbean modernism.
