Paper Roses

This is my adaptation of

Cassie Chappel

of

as seen on

Martha Stewart

Cassie demonstrates her technique
and showcases her amazing talent.
Her roses are truly remarkable.
I encourage you to view the video and
to follow her guidelines and materials.

But....

If you're like me - and you don't have the
cone filters recommended. I have adapted
her technique; using her templates
(made available on Martha Stewart website)

****
cut out templates provided through Martha Stewart
website onto card stock 1-4

templates 5 - 8 there will need to be eight
coffee filters per flower
I trimmed the template for petals 5,6 & 7,8 to fit our
filters
Cassie recommends cone shaped filters - I would too!
We (as my sister would put it) got "froggy" and purchased
a large box from Sams Club -1000 count! Before we knew better.
to work with templates I folded several (4-5) filters in half and
pressed them flat
I would lift the top filter, place the template beneath and trace
these are 1-4
traced templates 5-8; petals 5,6 are the same size
as well as 7,8 are the same size. So in total
you will have 12 (5,6 size) and 12 (7,8 size)
cut out petals top to bottom: 1,2,3,4
four is challenging; in the cone filter the petal to the right should have
been on fold; so I cut the left two petals first folded over
filter underneath the 3rd petal and cut creating the third full petal
when opened petal four should end up looking like this.
I had to cut the arch to the left to create this shape
for our purpose I used a small 4" piece of light floral wire
petal 1: open petal
insert wire into crease below two petals to the right

leave about an inch of the wire inside and fold petals back
as pictured above
begin to fold over one edge of the petals to begin rolling
the petals together
completely rolled

using floral tape wrap around 2/3 way down
petal and onto part of the wire
Petal 2: open petal stick wire through and create a big enough
hole to insert a portion of the floral tape.

begin "sandwiching" petals around petal 1 one over the other.
I recommend viewing video on Martha Stewart website

all #2 petals rolled tape with floral tape as with petal 1
tear apart petal 3 as pictured above

"sandwich" over petals 2 two petals at a time. Tape as in
step 1 & 2
Petals 3 wrapped around 1 & 2

tape as with petals 1 & 2

tear apart petal 4 as pictured above - at the seam

wrap the three petal section first then follow with the two petal
section just behind the edge of the last petal wrapped. Tape
as before

This step will be repeated with petals 5,6,7 and 8. Taking
three petals at a time wrap around previous petals overlapping
about 1/2 way

with left hand hold three petals at top

wrap three petals with tape and repeat with the
remainder of the petals - three at a time until all are used up
tape well over all and down to wire

begin "blooming" flower by pulling out petals -
again you can view video for great demonstration

petals fully "bloomed" out
this can be found at Michaels or at florist supply stores

another amendment. Cassie paints her flowers with water colors. I used
a spray paint specifically for silk flowers

to curl the edges I used a metal skewer (she suggests wooden)
This is what we had on hand. For the outer petals Curl each edge
toward the point of the petal

for the inner petals curve from the top downward
Again, the video will make this very clear

completed rose

for our project we're making flower curtains out of christmas
netting lights to hang underneath a patio - these will
be behind the bride and groom
We need to make eighty roses for this. We're half way there
Don't really feel like singing Paper Roses much

I hope you've enjoyed this - I hope I've made
it clear. If you have any questions - feel free to
ask - I'll do my best. Really, this is a lot of fun!
