The Precious

Pecans

In this historic town, where cotton was once King,
Pecan trees are planted in orchards and in grid
formation within the downtown area.
We live on the out-skirt of the downtown and have
a few pecan trees.
One that sits on the very edge of the property
produces quite large, delicious nuts.
Some of the other trees produce smaller varieties.

We call them "The Precious" because one could become obsessive in walking through our yard picking them up! After buckets are filled, my husband takes on the task of shelling the pecans -
yep, shells fly everywhere! he uses one of those

that practically makes them explode shells.
It is called a "Piston Nutcracker".

But, to him - they're "Precious". We tease him
because it reminds us of The Lord of The Rings and
Gollum.

Another new "precious" is the Angel Trumpet. My husband received a few sticks to plant a couple of years ago. They are late bloomers so the first year
they didn't produce but a couple of blooms.

But, OH! The scent!
This year, they bloomed like mad! But, frost was due to hit, so my husband chopped the large stems and now is rooting several 'sticks' in water -

more 'precious'.

Hope you have a precious, Delightsome day!
