 The Thrill

of

the Hunt

3rd Thursday -Thrifting:

To find something beautiful – something you love at a thrift store, Goodwill, Estate sale, garage sale or on the curb is thrilling.

this was a magical-surreal day finding all these Delightsome treasures
Typically, when I enter the store, I go directly to the back – the linens are before the house ware. My eye scans for colors and patterns that I have come to love – to look for- I love to find tablecloths, napkins, pillows.

all these pillows- save the large floral- I made that one - were found at Goodwill. One of my favorite
things to find is large king-size pillow shams like the one pictured here.
Then I immediately move forward to the house ware – I look for teacups, white pitchers, cake plates, vases, candlesticks –
Occasionally finding that rare piece of furniture.
I found these wicker pieces along with a tall wicker shelf
all for $25 at a garage sale.

I admire those who keep to a budget - I wish I could say that I am always that disciplined.

no matter what size - I love finding cloches
Our dear blogging friend Miss Mustard Seed (go here for full post) shared her thrifting secrets – grand advice.

1.   Always be on the hunt…
these sweet four seasons statues were all for $10
2.   Be willing to roll up your sleeves and dig…
at a garage sale, I dug through a black garbage bag to find these gorgeous linens -
I found the vase and pitcher at the same sale.
3.   See what something can be-not what it is…vision
I was excited to find this large Atlas jar with a zinc lid - I embelleshed it. I saw beautiful
examples at The House in the Roses blog
4.   When buying furniture-buy quality…
more Goodwill finds
5.   Buy what you love…
found at goodwill - these are good examples of things I love. I made cake plates with the two dishes to the left.

6.   Don’t be afraid to dumpster dive… I have done that with great success!
7.   Talk to people – let them know you’re on the hunt – people are always cleaning things out.
this sweet flower vase with bird -flower frog was found at a garage sale-1/2 off!
8.   To get bargains – don’t look for perfection
the pitcher on top was reduced in price due to chips on the base
9.   Surf Craig’s List – with care
10.                 Attend Auctions
Whether your thrifting for your business or for yourself – the hunt is definitely part of the fun – the find is the just reward for all your efforts! I wish you well in your hunts!
