I wondered about all the differentcottage styles. I think overall, my home is decorated in ‘cottage style’ but notjust one type of ‘cottage style’. I am working on making mygreen room a Shabby Chic cottage style, but while reviewing the manydifferent types of cottage style – I think it will be a combination of ShabbyChic, Romantic and Cottage Garden.

While shopping a flea market last week I found these

I have had these on my wish list for quite a while. I actually found three at Goodwill and two at the flea market - the very same day!

I thinkeach have similar elements beginning

with what makes you happy – what isbeautiful to you.

EnglishCottage is distinguished by antiques, overstuffed chairs, cozy spotsfor tea.

FrenchCottage uses the vibrant Provencal colors with

a touchof rustic style such as the use of painted furniture and roosters.

ShabbyChic blends the perfectly imperfect, hardwood floors, white walls,flea market finds and soft pastel colors.

RomanticCottage is covered in floral touches, pinks and feminine touches.

CountryCottage is a charming reminiscence of going to grandma’s farmhousefilled with rustic elements, churns, benches and blends of wood and richcolors.

Beach Cottage inspired by the tranquil colors of the seaside with touches ofdriftwood, shells and comfy, relaxed furniture.

CottageGarden brings the outdoors inside using the range of colors from thegarden, plants, and trellises giving one the sense of the indoors melding withthe outdoors.

PrairieCottage reminds one of the homemade furniture, blue and white dishes,lanterns and such used by homesteaders – a light, comfy style.

And SwedishCountry light colors of white, blue and grey in an uncluttered styleaccentuated by the use of architectural details.

I am sure there are more Cottage Styles -

such as Camp cottage -the possibilities seem endless!

Myfriend Maria has a gorgeous Cottage Home – I feel throughout it is a lot ofFrench Country with touches of Country Cottage. I shared her home with youhere.

I thinkit is perfectly fine to blend elements of each cottage style in your personal décor, to flowfrom one style to another. To me, the basic element is what appeals to you. It iswhat you like – your style. What makes you smile, what makes you comfortable –your home is the ultimate, welcoming reflection of you.
