HGTV Green Home 2012 Giveaway Coming This April

In early April, the HGTV Green Home 2012 Giveaway will be launched. According to the HGTV website, one of the sources of inspiration for the HGTV Green Home 2012 was the Trump-Lilly Farmstead, circa-1873, in West Virginia. To design the home, architect Steve Kemp and residential designer Georgia Muncaster looked at photos of historic Southern farmhouses.

In the interest of keeping the house green, this compact home is designed to look, feel and live like a 4,000 square-foot home. The traditional Southern farmhouse is a mix of traditional with modern design elements to be environmentally friendly.

The HGTV Green Home 2012 uses eco-friendly building materials, energy-efficient home systems and green building practices and a practical basic design to qualify for LEED certification. Careful planning results in a timeless, sustainable design. The home is located in the picturesque community of Serenbe, Georgia.

The idea is to build small and live large in this 2,300 square foot HGTV Green Home 2012 with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Outdoor rooms are part of the home's design. Kemp said, “Our premise always starts with blurring the lines between inside and out. We want to make these exterior walls at certain strategic places disappear.” This is accomplished by using glass and having a connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Serenbe, Georgia is a green and organic community, as shown in the video below. Visit the HGTV website to see photos and videos of the HGTV Green Home 2012 and find out how to enter this giveaway that starts in April. For those who missed out on the HGTV Dream Home 2012, there is still the HGTV Green Home 2012.
