JUST IN TIME FOR SPRING

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Back in the summer I came across this fabulous fabric find.
I knew right away I wanted to use it for new drapes for our family room.
The seamstress (my mother) delivered them a few weeks ago.

I think I'm in love with the new Spring/Summer drapes....

These are the previous Fall/Winter drapes.....

Believe it or not, both fabrics were found on clearance for $4/yard
and who am I kidding, I love these new window treatments so much,
they will probably stick around all year long.

I love the pinch pleat detail.

I realize we have only had the trampoline sectional for a little over a year,
but if I play my cards right, it will be on its way out of here very soon.
Craigs List, here it comes......

I have a few ideas of what I want to replace it with, but that's a whole other post.

And since I am making a concerted effort to stop and smell the roses,
I picked up these beauties for $4.99/dozen today at the grocery store.
I smile every time I walk past them.

Did you stop to smell the roses today?

Freshen up the Kitchen with Fabric

Posted by MAKMU ta On Thursday, December 08, 2011

Fabric can add such life to a kitchen!

 BEFORE

 AFTER
We added some color to the windows, the fabric and pattern as well
as the color gives so much more interest and warmth to the kitchen.

BEFORE there was little that tied the space together.

AFTER
The runner on the table as well as the curtains become an
 inspiration piece.
You can use those same colors to accessorize
 the rest of the kitchen.

Try a little fabric in your Kitchen!!

STRIPES, STRIPES AND MORE STRIPES

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, October 17, 2011

They are everywhere.  Lately I've been drawn to stripes. I love them on walls, floors, chairs, bedding, just about anything.

I was racking my brain over the weekend trying to come up with a place to add stripes in my house.
I love the idea of painting stripes on the wall, but I'm not sure I want to tackle any painting projects right now.

To satisfy my longing for stripes, I think I'll add some here, in our powder room.

I pinned up the fabric I bought from this shopping excursion to see how it looked.

I am loving it.  It will probably stay pinned in place for a few weeks just to make sure I don't change my mind.

I am thinking a simple roman shade, similar to this one.

What do you think?  Are you a fan of stripes?

OUT OF CONTROL

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, October 11, 2011

My fabric obsession is officially out of control!  I went to pick up some fabric for a new project I am working on and somehow I came home with tons of extra.  How does that happen?  I'll tell you how it happens, I see something beautiful, for a great price and I just can't seem to pass it up.

What is wrong with me??????

These are the fabrics I went to pick up. They are going to be used in a new client's bedroom.
I'm working on the design now and I hope to have it finished up by the end of the week to show you.  Aren't they pretty together?

Technically I didn't buy the fabric on the right, my friend did and it is the leftover from this project.
I did buy the striped fabric on the left.  Love the natural colors and I'm such a sucker for stripes.

I can't seem to get enough of blue and I'm crazy about this design.

I have absolutely no idea where I am going to use this, but once again,
I'm a sucker for stripes and I love the colors.

I tend to stockpile fabric like some people stockpile toilet paper.  I suppose if there were ever an emergency, we could wrap ourselves in fabric and keep warm or in an extreme emergency, it could even be used as toilet paper.  I said an extreme emergency.

If I can't seem to find a use for the extras I brought home today, I may be listing them for sale on my blog.  I may even incorporate them in a design board for some inspiration.  Stay tuned.

Anyone share my fabric obsession?

When Redesigning a Bedroom--- Make the Bed the Focal Point of the Room

Posted by MAKMU ta On Wednesday, September 28, 2011

The bed makes a wonderful focal point
when redesigning a bedroom.

BEFORE
The homeowner of this master bedroom,
was trying to give it a new look.

She had purchased new bedding
but it was not enough to give the room a change.

We just needed to rearrange a little
and add some interest with fabric!

AFTER
When you are redesigning a bedroom
you usually want the bed to be the focal point of the room.
So we moved the bed to the wall between the two windows.

Doesn't that create a very nice focal point?
See how the layering of pillows and bedding
really does make the bed stand out.

The coordinating curtains give the room some drama and elegance.

BEFORE
The bed was on the opposite wall
so when you entered you did not really see it.

AFTER
See how we created a nice balance on that wall across from the bed.

The homeowner purchased fabric and hemmed a coverlet
for the end of the bed as well as the curtain panels.

So simple... just hem the sides and the ends and hang with curtain rings.
It really makes a difference!

What a beautiful and relaxing retreat!

Take a look at your bedrooms---
What could you do to create more of a focal point?

FABRIC BULLETIN BOARD

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, September 05, 2011

Just as soon as I thought my daughter's room was all finished, she decided she needed a little something extra, a bulletin board. I see cork bulletin boards all the time in thrift stores and I have even picked up few lately.  They are sitting on our third floor waiting to be used for yet another project.
I wanted her bulletin board to be something special.
I had some old blank canvases stored in the basement.
We grabbed one and used a staple gun to attach some leftover fabric.

This is what we came up with....

We hung it on the wall next to her desk.

We also added some blue ribbon we had on hand to the edges, to dress it up a bit.

It's the perfect spot for her to hang pictures of her friends, special awards,
important e-mail addresses, or whatever else she deems important at the the time.

The fabric was leftover from this pillow project.  This fabric was the inspiration for
the entire room so I was thrilled we were able to incorporate it somewhere else in the room.

Have I mentioned my obsession with fabric lately?
Hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend.  We did a lot of nothing and I loved every minute of it.  Saturday it was close to 100 degrees and today it was about 65 degrees.
Looks like summer is officially over!
