Happy Thanksgiving week...
I hope everyone is getting ready for a relaxing week of over indulgence in comfort food. I know I am we are one turkey dinner down with 2 more to go! I had every intention of posting some pictures of the almost complete bathroom today but hosting dinner and house guests took most of the extra time this weekend. So maybe tomorrow. I am excited at the progress and more excited to be close to finishing something!

Leaf Photos and Leaf Art
Although our weekend started off with a rainy heavy-traffic drive up north, followed by the realization when we awoke on Saturday that there were not that many coloured leaves on the trees this year, it still turned out to be a great weekend.
I managed to find some gorgeous trees and take a bazillion photos.
I enjoyed the last of the flowers in my Mother's garden
and picked a bouquet to take home to my parents when we left.
I love all the different coloured leaves, but have a soft spot in my heart for the ones that just can't decide what colour to be - cause you know what - if I was a leaf that's what I would look like.
Of course I had to carry on my leaf art tradition from last year (read this post to see what we made last year) and I made two new ones this year. I had to be fast because it was windy, so they are by no means perfect.
First I made an arrow,
and then the Bangladeshi flag. If you aren't up on your flags of the world, then you can add this one to your repertoire as it is one of the easier ones to remember - a red sun on a green field.
All in all a lovely weekend filled with long walks, beautiful leaves - and log chutes which I'll tell you about in my next post.

Dark and detailed, I am completely in love..
From the very first picture I was in love. The color scheme is dark and moody and I love it! It feels so very fall. I have been leaning towards lighter design lately but I know my true love when I see it and this is some of my favorite color inspiration. Not to mention the mix of industrial and vintage - so amazing!

I'm Falling for Fall
It's that time of year again when the lovely warm sunny days of summer start to turn cooler and the days grow shorter. I can't say that I'm happy about summer being done, because I'm not. I find the end of summer bittersweet, but I'm putting a brave face on it and welcoming all the good things in fall. I do love the crisp clear weather, colourful leaves, and gourds and pumpkins.
I got it into my head that we should go and see the migrating birds down at Long Point on Lake Erie - so off we went on a day trip this past weekend. Do you see the flocks of migrating birds in the photo below?
Nope - neither did we. No birds. Apparently we were too early. Oh well! We got to enjoy the fall flowers which were ablaze with colour. Why are so many fall flowers purple and gold? One of life's great mysteries.
Long Point was a lovely fusion of summer beach fun and fields of fall flowers - the best of both seasons.
Do you notice something in the picture above - only one little chicklet left at home. BOO! Kate is at university hundreds of miles away in Nova Scotia and Malcolm, of course, is not living at home now that he is married. We have been encouraging William to roar around and make the noise of three kids, but it is still pretty quiet around the house these days (especially when he goes comatose like he did on the beach in the photo below).
I enjoyed taking photos of the lovely rippled sand around the driftwood,
my handsome husband,
and sparkly water.
What do you enjoy about autumn?

The days have been extraordinarily perfect. I love a cool morning – the light of the rising sun through the trees.
The long, hot summer has made some of my trees and plants tired. This cypress tree is loosing its leaves early without changing color. Shedding, I suppose to preserve its energies.
I decided to take a cloth and to lay out under its branches – to listen and to look at my surroundings in wonder. This tree has to be nearly 100 years old – I am sure it has seen season upon season of change.
I am often asked if I am not lonely on my solitary excursions. It seems so self-evident that one cannot be lonesome where everything is wild and beautiful and busy and steeped with God that the question is hard to answer.--John Muir
I lay looking at the sky and the passing clouds – they form images in my imagination. I used to do this often as a child – lay in wonder at the beauty around and above me.
The moon is nearly full tonight – the sky will be clear – in the country it is as if you can see forever.
Seasons come and seasons go and I remain in wonder at those things around me – I hope in my heart I will always be – I hope I will remember always to take time to see the design in creation – to thank God for all he’s provided for us to use and to enjoy.
I am still looking for gardening inspiration and I selected another Carolyne Roehm book – one of the four season series – Fall Notebook. My glass of iced tea tinkles as the ice shifts – one of my favorite childlike appreciations this time of the year is candy corn.
I love to slowly nibble on this very sweet treat.
I have to take care though, our dog seems very interested in it – wanting to sample some for herself.
Do you still enjoy the wonders of the world with childlike appreciation? I hope you do – take the time – it is worth it to your mind and to your soul.

Autumn...
I know, I know I should be savoring my last week of Summer with the kids at home.
But there is so much to be done and I am waiting for Fall with baited breath.
I love the cooler evenings after the long visit of Summer, and the chance to wear the boots and other things that have been hiding in my closet since Spring...
