Beautiful Spring Day at My Cottage
Posted by MAKMU ta
On Monday, March 19, 2012

Webster was off looking for snakes when I snapped this photo with my new iPad. It's very awkward I must say and slippery too. I can't imagine taking this anywhere except around my own property as a camera. If you are lucky enough to have a beautiful cutting garden or lots of interesting things to photograph around your own home you are in fat city. Otherwise, it's much easier to use your iPhone. It slips into your pocket and doesn't have to be babysat. The new iPad is capable of capturing great pictures though.

Please Save Me A Bite!

Piggy isn't here but we still talk about him. My mother was eating some chocolate and he didn't get a bite because dogs aren't supposed to eat any -- but he did get to lick the soup bowl. I hope he misses us. Webster doesn't seem to care one way or another. He likes being only dog or guest host equally well. It's supposed to be 66 degrees today with spring in the air.

Piggy says Goodnight
Posted by MAKMU ta
On Saturday, March 03, 2012

The Pig is back for a one-night sleepover. He and Webster had a long walk when he first arrived at 4:00. They had dinner at 5:30 and I took them for another long walk. They are both sound asleep but I might wake them up again for another one before settling down for the night. I think I'll bed Piggy down with me so he will stay put since he didn't bring his crate. He is the cutest house guest ever and no trouble at all. Goodnight.

Webster's Favorite Spot
Posted by MAKMU ta
On Wednesday, February 29, 2012
Webster has a window on his world in this spot. He can watch me cook in the kitchen straight ahead, see my mother if she comes upstairs to his right, look out the french door to the balcony on his left, and nap whenever the moment is right. His dog dish is within sight from here too. I had a request for a Webster update so here he is. I might add that he has taken to sneaking on this sofa in the middle of the night too which does not please me at all.
He must have gotten tired of this sofa on the other side of the room. Little guy is Piggie who came for a sleepover.
And this one opposite the fireplace. I give up.

New [Vintage] Tartan Plaid Blanket at My Cottage
Posted by MAKMU ta
On Saturday, February 18, 2012

The rummage sale at the Methodist church on the second day scored a wonderful vintage wool blanket. I changed my linens yesterday while I was cleaning my room and this blanket turned out to be perfect on top of my Matelasse spread. It is a thin weave and is so long that it has to be doubled lengthwise. The two bound edges wound up under the pillows. I'm sure it was made this way for double insulation because the bottom crease has always been this way. Maybe someone even made it from woolen fabric--there aren't any labels. It's in perfect condition without a single moth hole. Webster loves it too as you can see. It keeps both of us warm, cozy, and happy.
Have a restful weekend keeping watch while lounging in bed if at all possible. Everything looks better with a dog on it; doesn't the first photo look empty?

Staffordshire Spaniel with Paperwhites
Posted by MAKMU ta
On Sunday, January 22, 2012
My living room mantel rounds the corner on one side to meet the back wall. A large Staffordshire spaniel is posing there alongside a bulb forcing vase with blooming paperwhites. They are reaching for the ceiling but are still very nice and upright because of my cool (as in temperature) house.

Patiently Waiting for Pizza
Posted by MAKMU ta
On Friday, January 13, 2012
I popped a couple of Totino's frozen Party Pizzas in the oven for lunch. My mom and I love them. We always get triple cheese and add some toppings. Today I added feta cheese, green olives and the pimentos from the salad olives. The oven was preheated to 450 and I cooked them directly on the second from the bottom oven rack for 13 minutes. I used the wooden rack puller/pusher twice.
This was a perfect cold weather Friday lunch without leaving the house. Webster enjoyed a crusty bite from each of us.

My Paperwhites are in Bloom

Narcissus papyraceus
I snapped this photo with my iPhone last night just before I tucked myself in to watch the first episode of Downton Abbey Season 2 on PBS last night. I was listening to NPR yesterday afternoon and they kept reminding everyone to watch DownTown Abbey. Whatever you want to call it you should definitely try to catch this 2-hour episode or watch it online before next Sunday.
I bought 15 paperwhite bulbs and started them the week before Christmas and only two are in bloom. One is in a bulb-forcing vase and the other is in soil. The one that is blooming in the clay pot with soil has another bulb beside it that has barely started to grow. I guess they have their own internal clocks. At this rate, I might have blooms in the house all the way up until Easter. This would be fine with me because they are very strongly scented. If they were all blooming at once you could easily fall over from perfume shock upon entering the room. How does your indoor garden grow?

Now that the Christmas tree is down it's been fun playing house and doing some new tabletop decorating here at the cottage.
Mother Hubbard's cupboard is bare andpoor lucky Webster had to eat Cheerios and cat food with soy milk for breakfast. Needless to say he was thrilled.
