Guest Post: We Love Scandanavian Style

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Today’s guest post is from Susi, a writer for Arcadian Lighting. Visit their website and cool blog for more information about interior design, lighting design, and beautiful light fixtures. Enjoy!

We love Scandinavian style because it is so close to Shabby Chic. Scandinavian style is based on antique painted furniture, pale whites and gray palettes, and easy, yet elegant design. Here are 8 rooms that show why we love Scandinavian style and think you will too.

Scandinavian style is all about a pale, monochromatic palette of cool whites, pale creams and light grays. This dining room has the added bonus of chic natural accessories.

Pale, white washed rooms filled with icy blues are typical of Scandinavian style. Interesting textiles with subtle coloring and bold patterns are another thing we love about Scandinavian style. Love the antlers too.

White washed whites fill this farmhouse kitchen with Scandinavian style. We love the long white painted work table as a kitchen island, with the unexpected light fixture, an antique chandelier, above.

We love the tarnished silver and crystal of these antique pendant lights hung in a group over a white farmhouse table. Very elegant and very Scandinavian.

A palette of subtle variations on white is sophisticated and shabby chic at the same time. Clean lines and minimal decoration keep the focus on the pale colors.

We love gray and white rooms. White painted floors make this room feel super airy. Love the pale grays in the area rug and black and white photos.

Handmade and handcrafted furniture and accessories are definitely things we love about Scandinavian style. Chunky knits on pillows and ottomans remind us of Norwegian fisherman's sweaters.

We love Scandinavian antiques. This living room has a lovely mix of antiques, upholstered and slip covered furniture, all in palest shades of color and whites. Can't overlook the sparkling light fixtures—crystal chandeliers complete this space beautifully.

A Little Swedish Shabby Chic Apartment

Posted by MAKMU ta On Thursday, October 27, 2011

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted here - it's almost the end of the month - I owe you a post!

I was reading a Sunday supplement when I was away recently and found an article on one of those designers' homes lending a little nod to swedish influence. Just had to post my own!
