Family traditions for Christmas...Familientradition zu Weihnachten...

Posted by MAKMU ta On Saturday, December 11, 2010

Hope you have time to enjoy the weekend!!
Herzlichen Gruss zum 3. Advent.
Every year before Christmas
I am sending the largest Nürnberger gingerbread box I can purchase online
from Lebkuchen Schmidt, Germany to my daughter and her family  in Sweden.
I know they will enjoy the wonderful Lebkuchen. Many years ago my grandmother gave me Elisenlebkuchen as a gift for Christmas. Still remember how wonderful they tasted.
Now I am a grandmother and give my grandchildren Lebkuchen for Christmas.

Coming home...

... to Sweden is precious, every time.

All images today are from my parents' garden and the lovely lake nearby. Everything in the garden has been built by my parents and mostly my father. The main house and all the outbuildings, the pond, the wishing well, all the stone walls, the very raised vegetable beds (painted brick imitation above) to accommodate my mother (whose hip no longer allows bending over to tend to the vegetables), pergolas, "pot men", and much more - all born out of my father's hands. He is, it has to be said, more than a little trigger happy with the cement mixer, and evidence is everywhere in the shape of benches, the "HEJ" sign and numerous other concrete constructions.

My father is not a builder by trade, but stubborn as a mule and a lot of the above mentioned accomplishments were built purely by the attitude that "nothing is impossible, I just have to find out how to do it".

This blog entry is dedicated to my lovely parents, without whom I would be lost.

Peering into paradise...
Yes, the view may seem familiar to some of you, and peculiarly Swedish, you may say to yourselves. You would be right. This Swedish lady has brought her Swenglish offspring for a quick recharge of the Swedish batteries, a speedy refuelling of all that is Swedish...
The weather gods are on my side. The lake where my parents live has never looked more beautiful. Despite the early date, my boys have already dared dipping into the clear water, squeeling appropriately on encountering the modest temperature.
I will now take a few days to enjoy walking on Swedish soil and be back in my blogging chair towards the end of the week, or perhaps the beginning of next...
Wishing you all a lovely week and see you soon!
