I am so glad for the weekend, although I won't be resting too much, I like the idea of it. Just a little vintage chic inspiration here..
I received a sweet comment on the blog that made me think about somethings I had planned for this year in blogging. I wanted to share more of my personal projects with you here, more of what truly inspires me to design in my own home, is that of interest to you my readers? This year looks to be really great for getting some of the personal projects I have been planning actually done, making them so much more fun to share!
Have a great relaxing Saturday - it's always nice to spend a day doing things for yourself right?

We added this prize winning Charolais calf to the photo gallery in our living room.
A professional photographer I am NOT, but I enjoy printing and framing photographs I have taken of our family and interests including the huge
barn photo in our living room and the
barn photos in our kitchen. It is not expensive original art, but I love the look and personality they give to our home. I had an 8" x 10" print made from the photo I took of my son's
4-H calf project at the Royal and added it to
this photo gallery in the living room that is STILL a work in progress. With Christmas, work, and family I realize that this gallery is not going to be finished before Christmas, but I can live with that. We don't go back to school and work after the holidays until January 9th so that will give me some time to devote to it then, and save me stress worrying about it now. That's how I roll.
These photos of the print aren't as good as the in-real-life print which shows the beautiful old barnboard of the Royal Winter Fair barn stalls. But then, the in-real-life print doesn't do justice to the real live calf either. She is a prize winning beauty and we are thankful to our friends, her owners, who allowed our son to show her this past year.

This little miss and our oldest son had a busy time at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.
The photo below shows K competing in the 4-H National Junior Beef showmanship. In Comformation they won 1st place in Calf Class.
It was a sea of green in the 4-H beef parade that started the competition, with youth from Ontario and across Canada showing their region or provincial signs and flags.
It was a busy, exciting, fun, and tiring few days and we are proud of K and all the competitors. So much to see, to eat and hours upon hours of walking and standing. (And I have learned that I need a different lense on my camera for next year for distance photos.)

I'm joining the Vacation Memories link party at WhisperWood Cottage by sharing some of our summer trips.
We had a very busy summer spending time with family and taking lots of trips around Ontario. Our boys were very busy entertaining their little second cousins and hanging with their cousins...
...digging deep deep holes in the sand on a cold and windy trip to Wasaga Beach...
...so cold and windy that we had all of Beach 2 and Allenwood Beach to ourselves...
...where all the care, washing, blowdrying and general fluffing of the Charolais show cattle had two young men placing really well...
...our boys have 4 annoying sister-like girl cousins who play rep field lacrosse and we took in some games...
...and two days at a 4-H Junior Dairy Show...
...lots of trips to spend time with cousins and family in our favourite Grey County...
...hanging out in my sister's
family pool (fortunately only a 5 minute walk or two minute drive)...
...a wedding shower, lots of birthdays and bbq's, rabbit club meetings, dairy club meetings, beef club meetings, tractor pulls, Elmira livestock exchange and quilt shops. We also took some time to just hang out at home and relax. No wonder I barely dented my list of diy projects!

The boys and I just returned from a two day 4-H show, Dairy this time.
Great people, wonderful chaperones and the kids learn lots of leadership skills. It's also a nice break in the country watching all the age groups take their turns in the ring.
Lots and lots of kids and their calves and it all comes down to the judging of the finals.
And what a difference a year makes. Below is the same calf at the same show last August when she was still a tiny little girl.
And for comparison, here she is again this week.
Now I need to get those whites clean again for the next fair and put all the camping stuff away. Hope you have a great summer weekend!

Summer is the start of shows and fairs and as a 4-H family we really look forward to going to some great Invitational shows and fairs.
We live in town but our
boys love 4-H. Our oldest shows beef, dairy, rabbit and tractor. This is our younger sons first year in rabbit.
Lots of prep (by the 4-H youth) goes into training and getting the calves looking their best at the show. The judge makes his decisions after several heats and many trips around the ring.
And then calls them in, in order of placing. Lots of different breeds in each age group. I love their different colours and markings.
In Conformation the groupings are by calf age, and in Showmanship by the showperson's age.
Pure Charolais loveliness (the Charolais breed originated in Charolles/Charolais, France.) Aren't they gorgeous girls? We are so thankful to the cattle owners that allow our son to learn and show with their animals.
Camping is part of it sometimes too. But the scenery is worth it! We are really enjoying summer here (even with the heat). Hard to believe in only one month we are back to school!

I have a few very special pieces but they all have a story.. they should always have a story.
Some of my favorites are artwork.
I purchased my first Eric Zener pieces when I started working
on my own as a designer for the first time.
They are very special to me because they are symbolic of the adventure that I was starting and I love them to this day!

I finally had a chance to see the movie after reading the book on my trip. It was really great, the sets and costumes were wonderful and the animals were so cool.
Have you seen the movie? Did you read the book? I really loved the book and highly recommend it.

Up until two years ago we didn't have any pets, and I was quite happy about that.
Then our oldest son joined 4-H showing
beef and dairy cows and asked if he could have a rabbit to join the rabbit club. We agreed to the rabbit.
K showed great maturity and after much convincing and pleading by both our boys, we agreed to get a family dog. Being pet owners was in neither hubby or my plans, in fact we were really opposed to it. There was the cost, and the responsibility, allergies and the potential for dog hair and messes.
My list was never ending it seemed. But sometimes as parents we have to put our kid's wants and needs before our own. We have to
take risks. Hubby and I decided that we had to take a chance and let our boys prove that they were responsible enough. And I had to let go and learn to deal with the grass and the dog hair.They were growing up way too quickly and surely we could do this one thing for them. So the search began for our family dog.
Our sons really wanted a Lab or Retriever and we found a great breeder and became the owners of a registered chocolate Lab female, Remington 2nd. Of course there were some adjustments to our routine including that our youngest and I were both initially very nervous of her. But we got through them. K was a great help in making the transition.
Now we can't imagine not having her. And I'm almost learning to live with the dog hair :) . Our one rabbit now has a breeding mate, and her first litter of eight (K's new business.) Plus a new buck from my nephew in Sudbury is arriving this weekend. That will make 11 rabbits until some of the babies head to their new homes with other 4-H kids in the coming weeks. And yes, we live in town on a very small lot but we are coping.
This girl is adding to some great family memories too. I'm joining the
pet party feature at SNS Funky Junk Interiors. I still sometimes shake my head when I think back to how determined I was to not be a pet owner.
