Itching to Redo...

...my bedroom at home in California. As I've mentioned before I'm obsessing over seafoam and all things turquoise. Sometimes I'll be sitting in class and start picturing everything I want to do to the room...ahh, the life of a design student :)


So far, here's what I've come up with as the inspiration for the room:

For a long time now, I've dreamed of doing an entire gallery wall of all architectural prints, photographs and drawings. I'm hoping this will be the feature of the room, right above my new reading nook.  I'm doing away with my childhood desk {because I don't do much desk work at home anyways!}, and am hoping to find an inexpensive chair to create a cozy reading nook.  Some new white embroidered bedding, seafoam paint, and some fun turquoise accessories should do the trick!

Autumn

A Warm Welcome

Seasonal Transformation

One of the wonderful things about the changing of the seasons is that it gives us the opportunity to change up the décor in the rooms of our homes.

I love accessorizing tabletops, hutches, bookcases and

mantles in my home to reflect the mood of the season.

In Spring  it is light, rosy and cheerful.

In Summer it is bright, calming and clean.

In Autumn it is Warm and Welcoming

The inspirations for my Autumnal mood began with applying the color of a deep forest green on the hutch in our kitchen. I then layered textures of wrought iron and pewter and glass. 

The other predominate colors are gold and red. To emphasize the joyfulness of the season – harvest – I have placed vignettes of fruit here and there as well as dried beans and corn.

I found these Country Living salad plates at K-Mart while visiting my sisters and brother in South Carolina. I love the theme to the set – ‘Friends’.

I just adore the deep red color of this set!

It echoes another element that appears in my Autumnal décor


 – roosters and chickens.

I painted this door in my kitchen to fill an open spot. I shared this with you here.

The colors of my home lend themselves to

Warm décor – in the dining room I am thrilled

That the new colors to my dining room set,

of which I shared with you the transformation

here and here,

go beautifully with the warm colors of Autumn.

The dining table lends itself as a wonderful welcoming focal point to our home now since it is the first thing one sees as they enter our home.

I found these adorable buffet lamps at Dollar General in their clearance area for $2.75 each! The Better Homes and Gardens lampshades came from Walmart at $4.95 each. 

This goes well with my effort to bring more light to tabletops in my home, similar to what I found at my friend Maria’s home. I love the warmth lamplight and candlelight brings to a room.

On the living room mantle, I began with the same runner I used during summer. 

I added this blue urn that I found at my friend Maria’s shop – RoomsULove.  

I moved the candlesticks with beeswax candles –added a couple more candles, the burlap pumpkins, orange paper roses – remnants from my daughter’s wedding and a couple of blue and white small urns to balance the larger urn.

I kept the grapevine wreath simple by adding just a couple of the dried hydrangeas to some silk sunflowers. For a touch of red, I added two berry garlands swirled in and out of the mantle’s décor.

On the built-in bookshelves I followed through with the red, gold and blue colors - bringing warmth to these two corners of the family room. 

Our bedroom received a slight change –

The tapestry quilt lies over a golden-yellow comforter

And a few colorful pillows are added in.

From Patterned to Plain

Thank you for all the sweet comments about the nursery I revealed yesterday! 


Do you ever look at a room and just think something is a little off?  Like, if only ______, then I would love the space.  Well, I've been feeling that way about my bedroom lately. I have had my bedspread for a few years now and I just felt like there was too much pattern.  In this case, the pattern was what was making the room feel very little girl.  Don't get me wrong, I love pattern, but I think it made my bedroom feel too busy. 
Do you agree?


Patterned:

I picked up these off-white linen curtains for a whopping $14.99 at Target! I'm kind of loving them (: They let lots of light in and still frame the window nicely. 


Plain:

I think they really brighten up the space and break up the pattern. I'm also totally into everything white and flowy right now, so it was just what the space needed (: It's relaxing and soothing, at least in my opinion. 


Also- my mom hasn't noticed them yet and it's been 2 days. I think it's kind of funny (: We'll see how long it takes her. If she says anything about it today, we'll know she read this post!

Living Divani Extra Wall Bed

I'm soon to blog me top 5 beds of this year and this has to be one of them and might even take top spot. The massive PRO or even the CON with it is it would work in almost any bedroom. I think moutains views, lake veiws of city views from this bed.

Glamorous but not over the top bedrooms

To me, the bedroom is potentially the most important room - though I know this is debatable. I sleep A LOT though so my bedroom needs to put a smile on my face. Here are a few bedrooms that do just that. Enjoy!
