Chevron Pillows

Posted by MAKMU ta On Tuesday, February 07, 2012

I was making my usual weekly Target run.  I always check out the home section.  It's a must.  I have an incurable itch to changing things around the house.  They are remodeling the Target near me so it looks like they are trying to get rid of a lot of items.  Many of them are clearance.  I came across these babies.

They are Dwell Studio and have a zippered cover.  Can you believe they were marked down to $7.00?  I started to get one to see how I would like it but immediately grabbed another just in case I did.  Good thing I got two because the rest were gone when I ran back in the next day.

Finally got my chevron and in the perfect color too.

Giving Chevron A Chance...Kind Of

Posted by MAKMU ta On Thursday, January 19, 2012

I wanted to add some of the ever popular chevron to my decor.  A throw pillow seemed right since it's small and if I didn't like it I can easily change it.  So me being me, I decided to DIY my own cover.  I bought some acrylic paint and fabric medium from Michael's.  The fabric medium is supposed to make the paint washable.  We'll see.  Onward.

Supplies used:
acrylic paint
fabric medium
fabric
chevron template
foam brush
contact paper

I used a chevron template from here and traced it onto my contact paper.  After tracing, I cut each strip of chevron and applied them to the fabric.

I mixed 2 parts paint with 1 part fabric medium.  I used black paint since I think some black and white would be a good contrast to the other colors in the room.

I started painting.  It was fairly easy but took me several coats to fill in all the white spots.

I tried being patient and wait for the paint to dry but couldn't.  I just had to pull the template off.

Looks ok right?  Yeah until you get up close.  The lines aren't as crisp as I would like them to be and there was some bleeding in areas.  Maybe it's the perfectionist in me.  I thought I pushed down all the edges of the paper.  Guess not.  Not sure if I'm going to use this piece for my pillow or start again.  I don't want my guests looking all hard at my pillow and scrunch their noses cause my chevron lines are crooked.  Feel me?  I know next time to use a foam roller instead of brush.  I had to blot with the brush and wasn't smooth but also I think it probably took longer this way.  Back to the drawing board.

Trends: Chevron

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, October 21, 2011

They're everywhere!  Chevron stripes that is.  I must admit I wasn't too fond of them at first but I've grown to love them.  Something about the bold pattern I guess.  I love how these stripes can make anything more modern.

I love it on these furniture pieces.  I would soooo like a blue chevron chair.

Or in small doses like these pillows...

or a cute plate would be nice.

How about on the floor or walls?

Is this a little too much for you?  This would look great with some bold pops of color.

It's even in fashion.  I love this dress.

I like this trend and would love to incorporate some in my home.  It may be in very small doses since Hubby isn't totally sold on it.  I'll keep working on him.

Do you have some chevron in your life?
