Let There Be Light

I finally found a chandelier I like.  It wasn't one of the options I showed you a couple weeks ago.  I just happened to be in Lowes returning another light when I saw this one.  It had the lines I wanted without being too modern.  You won't believe how many lights I had before actually deciding on this one.

I had the drum pendant from CB2 but once it was up (hubby held it up), I didn't think it fit the room.  It was a little too modern for me.  I didn't want something I would have to change again next year because I wasn't feeling it anymore.  I also think it didn't give off the amount of light I wanted for this room.  This light fits the room better and is more classic and can change with my evolving taste.

I also found some art to fit between the two windows.  It adds some red to the room.  Now if I could just find a round mirror I like for the stenciled wall.

Goodbye Black Chandy...But Now What?

I finally took my spray painted chandelier down. But only because I thought I was getting a new one this weekend.  Saturday morning, I took it down and just knew a new one would be in its placethat evening.  Boy was I wrong.  I headed to Lowes and Home Depot in search of my new chandelier.

First was Lowes, but nothing really spoke to me.  Besides I kind of knew the one I wanted was somewhere else.  Next stop was Home Depot.  I walked up and down the aisles several times not seeing the one I chose online.  I asked an associate where I could find the one I was looking for.  He kindly pointed out to me that this one was only available online.  There was no store SKU# that indicated it was available in store.  Bummer!  Okay, fine, I'll just choose another one.  I bought one that I thought was nice and would have to work.  I went home but couldn't make myself put it up.  It wasn't the one I wanted so why install it.  I went back to Home Depot and returned it.  

I'll be placing on order for a new one this week, but would like to know your opinion.  I originally wanted a drum pendant but after reading several comments and reviews, they don't seem to give off much light in a room.  So I decided to go with something nickel that has at least five lights on it.  Not too large but large enough to fill the space.  I think anything too big will make the dining room feel too stuffy and formal.  

This is the one I bought and returned.  I liked it but wasn't fond of the cloth shades.

 

 Here are the chandeliers I'm trying to choose between.

Option 1: Love the simpleness and clean lines.

 Option 2: Love the line detail the middle.

 Option 3:  Like it but not sure about the egg shape at the bottom.

Option 4: Very pretty but I think it may be too ornate and large for my space.  It may work for the foyer though.

What do you think?  Right now there's a hole in the ceiling and the wires are taunting me.

Mason Jar -Collection Updated

I love mason jars and today I am sharing my updated collection all in one spot.

Mason jars are just so appealing and practical.

My favourites are the aqua jars with zinc rings and matching aqua glass seals. I have about a dozen of these, many so old that there are very distinct bubbles visible in the glass and they are a bit mis-shapen.

Mixed with my little collection of silver, or my growing collection of white dishes, ironstone pieces  and linens, it is hard for me to resist photographing them.

I always keep part of my aqua mason jars on an open shelf in the kitchen, and enjoy decorating the shelves seasonally.

This past Christmas the mason jars on the kitchen shelf were filled with old Christmas lights just for fun.

Miniature mason jars make great tealight holders. Simple twine was wrapped around the rims for some texture.

We also use mason jars, new and vintage, for food storage. In the little beverage center beside our stove a vintage jar holds tea bags and a new jar holds hot chocolate mix. I switched all my spices to  small mason jars and used my label maker to label them.

I love to use my vintage mason jars to hold fresh cut flowers from the garden.

In my hobby room/studio I use vintage mason jars to hold paint brushes, buttons, knitting needles and trims.

Using lamp kits, I made a few little lamps out of bigger jars.

And of course we use new mason jars for jam and frozen soups and stews.

Almost all my vintage jars, aqua or not, are Crown jars made in Canada. I found a pair recently that have the Improved Gem lids...

one an Improved Gem and the other with a Mid West logo, both also Canadian Made.

One Room Challenge (week6) The Finale!

Hello, and welcome back. Well, this is it.....utensils down, hands up.....oops, wrong show! This is the deadline for the One Room Challenge. The only thing that did not get done was a reupholster on the head chairs that you see in the beginning. I found a fabric...but ran out of time.
