A Gallery Wall

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, July 08, 2011

So after the painting, nailing, and adjusting of pictures, I'm done with my gallery wall.  Well finished for now.  I'll add more pictures in the future but at the moment I'm satisfied.  Who knows, things could be totally different tomorrow.  I tend to walk by things and change them on impulse.

In the daytime:

And at night:

This was a blank wall between the entry foyer and main living area downstairs.  It needed a focal point and I didn't want to add just artwork.  I wanted something special for our family and guests to look at when they enter our home.

This is what the space looked like when we moved in.

A little bland and lacked some color.  I finally painted it in Behr Brown Teepee.

And now...

To tie in the colors of the rest of the downstairs, I painted the lamp and small frames in Valspar's Mediterranean.  The mirror, large frames, and candles and candlesticks I already owned.  I bought the "W" at Hobby Lobby and spray painted it in Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze.

They are all floating above the infamous Ikea Expedit shelf I've seen floating around blogland.  It was the perfect size for the space and I didn't have to shell out hundreds of dollars.  I searched numerous furniture stores before stumbling upon this shelf.

You might be eying the dining room chandelier in the mirror.  Oh yeah, I'll be tackling that one soon!!

Hanging and Patching...

I've been busy positioning, hammering, and patching this wall all week.  Can't wait to show you what I've been working on.

This project does include my little lamp!

Adding some color

Posted by MAKMU ta On Wednesday, July 06, 2011

So this weekend I was busy painting.  Seems like the story of my life.  The previous owners changed nothing about this home, not even a speck of paint.  So we are left to transform everything ourselves.

We have a hallway/alcove that opens up to the main living area downstairs.  I have an idea for a project but I knew painting would be my first step.

Here's the before.  Boring builder beige.

So after a little color...

A huge difference in my book.  It's a darker, richer beige.  The perfect backdrop for my next project.

My Pretty Little Lamp

Posted by MAKMU ta On Sunday, July 03, 2011

So I've been on a thrifting kick and have come across some really good deals.  I've wanted a new lamp so I knew going to a thrift store would give me some budget friendly options.

On this day I went to a store I happened to find on an internet search.  I pulled up to the building kind of skeptical because it was smaller, but I went inside anyway.  I had a very good first impression.  I searched through some furniture pieces before heading to lighting.

When I found THE lamp it was too good to be true.

Lovely isn't it!!  NOT.  It was a whopping $2.99!!!!  I had ask an associate to make sure I read the tag right.  It even came with a shade that looked like it was new.  I knew it was coming home with me.

I knew the spot I wanted to put it so I had to find the right color to paint it.  After some searching I came across the color online: Valspar Mediterranean.  It would match perfectly.  I hopped over to Lowe's to get it and couldn't wait to start painting.

After some cleaning and several coats of spray paint, here it is!!!

Isn't it beautiful.!!!!  Not sure if I want to keep the shade white or cover it with some fabric but for right now, I'm loving it.

Wanna know where it's going in my home??  Guess you have to stay tuned to find out.
