DIY accordion lamp

Made from a $5 Ikea mirror. Pretty snappy with that red cord. I'm a sucker for colored cords!

Custom

This is a beautifully designed custom bookcase. I've really been feeling these two-toned inset bookcases lately. From a massive modern home near São Paulo.

Amazing things going on in blogland. Here's a DIY version of Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand's Potence lamp. (See some previously posted examples here and here.) You can buy one now!!! Man, I wish I could make stuff.

The dream

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, April 11, 2011

I know I say this a lot, but this is truly one of my favorite homes of all time. I previously blogged about it here, and recently bought an Elle Decor UK in which it was featured. Basically, I love everything. (Above photo shows picturesque location in Tribeca.)

That color, again

Posted by MAKMU ta On Wednesday, March 02, 2011

The home of antiques dealer Florence Lopez (another of her amazing homes here). Featuring a color very similar to what I once called "that green," but which is probably more of a petrol blue. Whatever it is, it looks amazing with black.

Black magic

Posted by MAKMU ta On Wednesday, September 29, 2010

This is one of those looks that seem simple at first, but ultimately show a lot of sophistication and planning. Those are some sweet-looking built-ins and these people aren't messing around.

I mean, here you go. That wood counter meeting a marble pedestal is pretty hard-core. (Sidenote: I still love those Tom Dixon pendants.)

I also remain a fan of black-stained wood, which you can see is a motif throughout the house. Presumably they have someone to clean the floors for them. Note also the yellow piping on the shelves above the computer.

The yellow is used again for the window frames. A nice, sunny contrast with all the black. Overall, the home manages to be both sophisticated and livable. Not an easy combination, and it's great to see someone pull it off.

Want. Want. Want.

Posted by MAKMU ta On Wednesday, August 04, 2010

Yes, I suppose this is crying out for a Unhappy Hipsters caption, but I don't care. I totally covet this apartment and I'm not ashamed to say so.

Like what is going on in this picture? Is something reflected? Are there two rooms with bookcases stuffed with interesting stuff? I guess so, since the floors are different. Mmmm, the floors...

Another nice floor in the kitchen. One wall seems to be wallpapered, although the wallpaper does not show up in any other pictures, unfortunately.

The tile floor makes this kitchen seem like a sophisticated little cafe. Or maybe it's the two tables for two (a little weird, right? Maybe the German explains).

And then there's a note of the bizarre with this JUMBO-SIZED Eames Hang-It-All. I had to stare at this photo for a long time before I realized what I was seeing.

Even the floor in the entranceway is cool.

Want.
