Friday's...in The Garden...New Plants & TTD

Hi Everyone...It was a cold gardening week!

Just like that, our weather decided to go back to the usual March weather (50's). I am a wimp with cold weather, so I went plant shopping. I found a lavender for my area. I have been dreaming of lavender for a long time.

I am extremely skeptical on this one.

The back of the card says 6...and that's my zone. So, I brought home 5 of them

If all goes well, it should look like this.

As for the the rest of my garden...my creamy daffodils are looking so lovely

I love their little peachy centers

This is also a good time to take inventory and make a "Things To Do" list. For me, my Pieris plants are getting smothered by the tall Green Giant Arborvitaes

I also don't like one pink blooming one next to the white blooming one. I prefer several of the same color grouped together. In the next couple of weeks, I will be transplanting them

This is a good example of when to transplant a perennial. Early bloomers, like this one, will do much better if they are moved after the bloom...or early fall. Since they look so similar without their blooms, I will mark them now, so I know which one is pink and which one is white.

Grey and lavender is a combination I don't think we see enough of.  I just love the soft combination!

This is a great way to treat an offset mantle also- they can always be so difficult.  

Happy Thursday already, I am not sure where the week disappeared to but thank goodness it is almost the weekend again!

Lavender Fields

I was thinking about lavender the other day. I miss growing it. In California, it was easy to have an abundance of it. I have not had the same luck in New Jersey (zone 6 that acts like a 5). I am not sure if I miss the smell or the look more?

Blue and White Tablescape

Pasta Night

I must say that I love color - I used to say that green was my favorite color, but I have come to believe now that I just love all colors.

In the Summer, I gravitate toward blues and whites -

for the serenity of the combination of these two colors.

There's a crispness, a cleanness about the visual 

effect of seeing blue and white together.

The nights are hot - we have come to the realization

Summer is definitely here to stay!

Warm Nights - Light dinners

Pasta is such an easy meal 

I love prima vera sauces my husband loves alfredo.

It is so easy to make pasta and two separate sauces to please

both palates.

I have chosen to fill the table with Blue and white

These lavender bunches have been around for years.

They still retain their beauty and fragrance.

I love them displayed in these white pitchers.

I love low wide rimmed bowls - these are Farberware - Corde

I am using my Battenburg lace napkins in these simple white napkin rings

These placemats belong to my eighteen year-old daughter - part of her collection.

I would love to keep these!

I am using the reverse of one of these placemats in the center underneath the pasta bowl

Warm nights, light suppers, serene settings - all the best ingredients

for a lovely, relaxing evening.

Early Summer

Garden Notebook

Last night I dreamed a sweet sweet dream

I thought I saw my home sweet home

And oh how grand it all did seem I made a vow no more to roam

By that dear old village church I strolled

While the bell in the steeple sadly told

I saw my daddy old and grey I heard my dear old mother say

You're as welcome as the flowers in May

And we love you in the same old way

We've been waiting for you day by day

I suppose it was bound to happen. We had such an early 

Spring, that we could potentially have an early Summer. 

The roses have been blooming for some time now - 

the daylilies are budding, 

the hydrangeas are beginning to open.

The annuals are bringing color throughout

The downside to summertime here, for me, is the hot and humid days.

We have reached over 90 degrees these past couple of days.

 My daughter's and my husband's favorite Meteorologist said last night

that today's temperatures would be like an oven.

In addition, we have had no rain for a couple of weeks, so today's task is to water. As I was maneuvering the hose to place my sprinkler where I wanted it, I chided myself for not collecting and placing soaker hoses throughout my garden - this is a task I will accomplish.

At our previous home we had a sprinkler system - it was divine - programmed bliss for my garden.

Here, where we have low water pressure - truly - I can only do one thing at a time - I am required to drag and position hose and sprinkler to various points in my garden - that's when it seems to magnify in size. But, it is a task I gladly do - with a kitchen timer so

I won't forget to move to the next spot!

We're in an in-between time in the garden - some of the flowers have come and gone and now we're waiting for the onset of summer blooms.

I have so loved and appreciated blogging - it has helped me keep up with what is going on in my garden in a somewhat organized fashion and it has kept my perspective. When it is hot and dry, I can easily forget those perfect cool days when the flower garden was all abloom and I was thoroughly enjoying their presence.

There's a season for everything. 

I like the poem/song I placed in the beginning -

 many of you are just now welcoming your flowers - so enjoy seeing them! 

I have a number of Marigold volunteers - some growing in the cracks of the brick patio.
Some of these are pernicious weeds too.
