A modern Madrid loft with a mix of vintage furnishings

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, March 05, 2012

I love seeing furnishings I haven't seen before, like this fantastic rocking chair.

I  like the use of mutiple coffee tables, even though they take up more space, they make the area feel more spacious because you have more surface to spread your items out on.

The light in this space is perfect

Can you imagine going to this beautiful space everyday for work?

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, November 21, 2011

I work from home, so I'm pretty lucky that I can design my space however I want (or however my wallet allows), but I have worked in a few offices and it's sad that we have to spend so much of our lives in a space where we can't really make it ours. Often it's hideous cubicle partition walls that we have to stare at day in and day out.

The loft is that of polish bag producer Batycki, a company located in north Poland - Gdansk.  It's light-filled and decorated with vintage furniture and accessories.  The plants also add a nice touch.

great shot

What do you think of the loft? Is your office space nicely designed/decorated, or do you with the company you work for put a bit more emphasis on good interior design?

The Kaalund factory

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, November 18, 2011

"The Kaalund factory" est le nom que la photographe danoise Pernille Kaalund a donné à son nouveau studio photo et film à Copenhague. Une ancienne usine de torréfaction de café composée d'une pièce immense, des fenêtres énormes et une hauteur de plafond comme il faut... Le rêve quoi.

"The Kaalund factory" is what Danish photographer Pernille Kaalund calls her new photo and film studio in Copenhagen. A former coffee roasting factory with one huge room, large windows and very high ceilings... A dream place really.

Lovely apartments from my future city

Posted by MAKMU ta On Thursday, June 30, 2011

As some of you might already know, in August I am moving to DC because my boyfriend will be attending GWU in the fall to get his masters. While I grew up in MD, I only ever went to DC for school field trips, so I don't really know much about the different neighborhoods. So yesterday before attending Manvi from Mochatini's fabulous tabletop decorating how-to party, which I'll be sharing pics from later, I drove around and explored some recommended neighborhoods. I checked out Columbia Heights, Shaw, Foggy Bottom, Dupont, Silver Spring (MD suburb), and Capitol Hill. It's ultimately going to come down to the $$/space ratio. Anyway, enough of that - here are some fab. DC apartments...

The vintage chic split level apartment is in Cleveland Park.

A fresh spin on one of the best decorating classics of all time

Posted by MAKMU ta On Friday, May 27, 2011

We had them when I was growing up, but being a child I rarely gave them a second thought. And when I was a teenager and not as into "home decorating" I equated them to stuffy victorian style interiors.  But now - oh now I love them.  Oriental rugs is what I'm talking about, and lately I've been seeing them used in ways that are definitely NOT stuffy and really plays out their beauty.  Just fyi - because I wasn't sure, I looked up what region a rug must come from for it to be considered "Oriental" -

Oriental rugs are organized by origin: Persian rugs, Arab rugs, Anatolian rugs, Kurdish rugs, Caucasian rugs, Central Asian rugs, Turkestanian rugs, Chinese rugs, Tibetan rugs and Indian rugs. via Wikipeia

Do you like these rugs?

If you do, you will be excited as me by this sale. All the rugs below are only $399 and range from about 4'x 8' (some wider, some taller). They are from Momeni and are hand-knotted and one of a kind.  They have some large, but pricier ones as well.  They are selling out really, really fast though.
