Four Fashionable Ways to Organize the Toothbrushes

Do you still use a regular toothbrush, rather than an electric one? If so, I've got some interesting ways to store those toothbrushes — for those of you who want an answer other than the spare coffee mug, which is what I use. There are wall-mounted options, but for now let's focus on the countertop choices.

And let's start with the toothbrush holders from Orla Kiely: the acorn cup pattern, and the linear stem pattern. They're only available to those in the European Union, sadly. [via Switched On Set]




Jim and Gina Mahoney's bath collection includes this practical stoneware toothbrush holder that still has that handmade charm. It's dishwasher-safe, and they say it will fit most toothbrushes.




I don't know if the toothbrush holders sold at the Speckled Hen Country Store — in a crow, sheep, and bunny design — are large enough for the fatter-handled toothbrushes, but they're delightful.



And Propaganda, based in Thailand, provides this toothbrush holder in white and gold. I can find it for sale in Japan, Singapore, France, Germany, Denmark, and Australia — but not any U.S. site I feel good about linking to.

Five Ways to Stash Stuff in the Shower

My shower has a "shower niche" — I had it added when the bathroom was remodeled, so I'd have room for shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles. (And no, I don't transfer my liquids into uniform bottles, as Martha Stewart recommends.) People can get pretty creative with these niches, as you can see on Houzz.

But what do you do with all the bottles (and the bar of soap, if you use one) if you don't have a shower niche?




Well, you could always use a standard shower caddy, and there are some pretty nice ones. This one comes from Hammacher Schlemmer, and Simple Human might be another good place to look. There are a large number of other choices, too.




Or you could get the very fun-looking Octopus Shower Caddy, sold at Sleek Identity, Uncommon Goods, Made in Design, PA Design, and other sites.




If you have room for a shower seat, you can get one that also has a place to store your shower supplies. This one, in teak, comes from Frontgate, but I've also seen one at Hammacher Schlemmer.

How Some (Fake) Grass Can Help You Organize

Organizing products with a grass-like look have sprung up all over the place! The one above, called (not surprisingly) Grass, is the countertop drying rack from Boon. Boon recommends it for baby accessories, and assures us it's BpA-free, PVC-free, and Phthalate-free. There's also a larger version of Grass, called Lawn.





Umbra makes its Grassy Organizer in green and in white. You see it being used to hold toothbrushes and toothpaste, and to hold pens and other desk items. Vat19.com no longer carries this product, but it has a nice write-up explaining why it thinks the Grassy Organizer is awesome.




Pratonzolo is a pencil holder — or desk organizer, since it could hold more than just pens and pencils — designed for by Matteo Mocchi of BBMDS and Max Battaglia of Givingshape for Stylemylife. It's "a little piece of fake grass" made of "natural bristles and wood."




Finally, there's the Kikkerland Grass Charging Station in white or black; you can also get a mini charging station.

Bathroom Organizing: Shower Curtains with Pockets

If your bathroom lacks storage space, a shower curtain with pockets might be useful. This one from Maytex is widely available; see here and here. The same product — or something that looks very similar — is sold as Colormate and Home Classics.




The Wintertek utility shower curtain has "four large self-draining pockets, capable of storing eight regular-sized shampoo and conditioner bottles and two loops (one large and one small) to accommodate various sizes of toothbrushes and razors." It comes in five different colors. [via Freshome]




And Pottery Barn Kids has its Ocean Shower Curtain with some smaller pockets.

Reader Question: Bathroom Cabinets, Part 2

How bout a nice selection of cabinets for the bathroom? One that will hold towels and a few toiletries for guests? Both wall-mount and floor-style would be of interest.

When I first replied to this question, I promised more to come. So here we go! I'm going to start with something that isn't actually a cabinet, but might still meet the questioner's needs. The teak étagère above comes from Williams Sonoma home, and it's on sale. (So are the storage baskets.)




VivaTerra also has teak shelving.




LineaAqua has a whole collection of linen cabinets for the bathroom.




While I think of toilets when I hear the Toto brand, the company actually makes a range of products, including these wall cabinets - which also come in white. [via Trendir]




Moving over to the U.K., The White Cottage has a number of bathroom cabinets.

Bathroom Storage: Luxuries Worth a Look

Like to support small companies creating wonderful hand-crafted products? Take a look at the marvelous medicine cabinets from Wood Essentials of Brooklyn, New York. I wrote about these medicine cabinets (and others) way back in August 2007, but Wood Essentials has now added a new line with crown molding. The cabinets come in both wall-mounted and recessed versions.
