Well, maybe it's not all in the details.
But the details count.
Yesterday I shared with you the knobs I found on eBay, for the kitchen cupboards.
The oak cabinets you see below, on the sink wall, are now painted white:
See?
When the doors and drawers are back where they belong, they'll be sporting these babies:
But what about our faux-Welsh-dresser-thingy that we created last May out of cut-down base cabinets,
half a hutch, and a butcherblock counter from Ikea?
It's been sporting plain 99-cent naked pine knobs since then.
May 2010, work in progress. The cupboard, not Howard. |
Well, eBay is still my best friend.
Whilst cruising its wooden cabinet knobs listings, I saw this picture:
and my heart stopped.
Okay, my heart didn't stop. But my search through other, lesser knobs did. Stop.
Even though they are new, they just looked so deliciously beat-up and scrungy and old,
as if they'd been hanging on the outside of some real Welsh dresser for decades.
The auction was for 8 of these chunky beauties.
I wanted 16.
That's when tragedy struck; there were only 8.
I bought the 8, and they will grace our faux-Welsh-dresser-thingy with their scrungy goodness.
The big oak cabinets flanking the dresser are being painted black, so that part of the kitchen
will -- I hope -- look less chopped up. But those cabinets are not going to be sporting these:
They are going to get the old 99-cent pine knobs, painted black. To blend in.
They also serve who only stand and wait.

The seller for these knobs, Laverna, was friendly and helpful,
and her prices and shipping are bargains.
She found a 9th knob and will pack it in with the other 8.
Since sometimes in this house, a knob rolls away never to be seen again, this is very welcome.
If you are searching for vintage style knobs or pulls
for cabinets or furniture, look her up. Her eBay I. D. is twincitylady.
Great stuff, nice person; what's not to like?
She's got some really good looking French-style brasses.
The pictures of the wood knobs in this post are from her auction; permission granted to use.

My dear daughter Anne is coming home this weekend; she says she needs to do a lot of drawing
for class, but I am pretty sure she really means "painting in the kitchen for Mom." -- Cass
