I Remember Grandma
I did not have the privilege to grow up near my grandparents.
They would on occasion travel to California to visit from
their homes in North Carolina.
Then my dad retired from the Navy and we settled in South Carolina.
I now had opportunity to spend more time with my grandparents
and to see their homes.
One of my memories is sitting at grandma's kitchen table talking and laughing.
There was always a pot of coffee going and I remember they always
used these Fireking Jadeite mugs.
I wish I had the foresight to know one day I'd love these things and
all things that I remember from my grandma's kitchen.
Both grandmothers had various collections of
what we now consider vintage and collectible -
They've both gone on to Heaven and I spend my time
searching for these items - remembering
sitting at one grandmother's table as she and grandpa chatted away -
talking at the very same time.
And sitting at the other grandmother's table - each of us reading a book
sipping away at a cup of coffee.
I didn't grow up with my grandparents close by or a short drive away,
but I did have the opportunity to spend time with them in my later teen years
storing away memories in my heart.
Feeling a bit nostalgic, I've chosen to keep some of these things out. Their light colors
remind me of Spring, and as I am preparing to Celebrate Spring with Victoria -
I think these pieces will brighten and cheer my kitchen.
I love changing things up each season.
Now looking at my collection of 'grandma's dishes' I smile and I
remember Grandma.
I am sharing this post with
