The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate
Europe, Asia and North America.
The Red Admiral has a two-inch (45–50 mm) wing span.
The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring, and sometimes again in autumn. This large butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown, red and black wing pattern. More specifically, the dark wings possess orange bands that cross the fore wings and on the outer edge of the hind wings; white spots on the dorsal fore wings near the front margin; reddish bars on dorsal surface of all four wings The caterpillar feeds on nettles, and the adult drinks from flowering plants like the Buddleia and overripe fruit.
I photographed the Red Admiral feeding on our butterfly bush in the garden.
It is not easy to take good pictures of butterflies, but today was my lucky day.

Der Schmetterlingsflieder (Buddleja davidii) wird in diesem Jahr von vielen Faltern, Bienen, Hummeln und Kolibris besucht. Es ist nicht immer leicht sie zu fotografieren, aber manchmal klappt es doch.
Der Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) ist ein Schmetterling aus der Familie der Edelfalter (Nymphalidae).
Die Tiere kommen in Nordamerika bis Guatemala, auf Haiti, Neuseeland und in Nordafrika und Europa bis in den Westen Asiens vor. Man findet sie bis in eine Höhe von 2.500 Metern. In jedem Gebiet leben speziell an das regionale Klima angepasste Populationen, die innerhalb eines klimatisch ähnlichen Gebietes im Frühjahr nach Norden und im Herbst nach Süden wandern.
