So Guess Who's In Pittsburgh?

When I get around to writing that September essay about "What I Did On My Summer Vacation," I can write that I went to Pittsburgh and Detroit with my daughters.

How many of you can say that?

On Wednesday, Anne and I left Dion and Howard in charge of That Old House, and took off for Pittsburgh, where Alida has been spending the last few weeks in study at Pitt.

While we were slogging through central Pennsylvania -- which is a very long state -- we encountered this:

Fun times, fun times.

But 7 hours after leaving New Jersey, including a one-hour stop at a Cracker Barrel for lunch and to pick up a couple of cheesy books-on-CD for the ride -- we picked Alida up in Shadyside, and headed for a Holiday Inn.

It has free wi-fi. Well, free is a relative term; it's not free if you are not paying for a room.

On Thursday we plan on scaring height-phobic Annie with a ride on the Duquesne Incline, and I plan to revisit some old familiar places. Howard and I lived in Pittsburgh way back, B. C. (Before Children), when he was news director at KDKA radio. I have fond memories of this great and quirky city.

Then on Friday, it's on to Detroit. Well, actually we are headed to a hotel in Livonia, Michigan, to rendezvous with a whole mess o'relatives for my niece Maggie's baby shower. She and her husband Garret are expecting twin boys. Soon.

I'll be back home on Tuesday, after bringing Alida back to Pittsburgh to finish her study gig. I hope we do not encounter any more of this nonsense:

Hey! Am I nuts, or does that cloud, above, look like a face in profile? A face with a really big pompadour!
Have a good week -- Cass
