When we moved to our house several years back, we had to wait on a few things. One of those was waiting to learn what was in this old garden. I have discovered some beautiful and amazing plants.
Some of the plants were put in by more recent owners. At the street there’s a long bed filled with plants that to my husband looked like weeds. They were low in the springtime and kept getting larger throughout the summer without one bloom or indication of what they were. Then in the Fall there were noticeable buds on the several stems. In late September the long wait proved well worth the while.
These long deep purple blooms appeared and swayed in the wind as vehicles passed by.
Later I discovered that these plants were favorites of butterflies – Monarchs and especially yellow ones.
I found that these wonderful plants are called Mexican Bush Sage and the yellow butterflies are Clouded Yellow Butterflies. I wish I could capture their beauty floating above the purple blossoms.
I am still delighting in the discoveries in our old home and garden. We are making progress in our house painting. Here’s a glimpse.
