When we bought our house, there were three full bathrooms - two on the second floor and one on the third floor. One of the full bathrooms was attached to (what was) the master suite. The bathroom had a toilet, sink and shower in it, but there was no way my husband I and would both fit in there at the same time. For our family, it made the most sense to give this room to our daughter. She's the only girl and, really, who wants to share a bathroom with two boys who have terrible aim. The other bathroom had a double vanity, but was also on the small side. We knew this one would work best for the boys. It wasn't in our budget to demo these bathrooms and start fresh. Plus, the tile in both bathrooms was in good condition. The rooms just needed to be dressed up a bit.
This is how the boys' bathroom turned out. The tile is original. We simply added a new toilet, vanity, faucets and mirror.
Steve Cline of Woodwork Designs made the bathroom vanity. He also made the kitchen cabinets, mudroom cubbies and the fireplace surrounds. Steve has amazing talent and his prices are very reasonable. I loved working with him.
This is how it looked before.
This is how our daughter's bathroom turned out. We had the tile painted white, added a new toilet, vanity, faucet, mirror and light fixture. Such a girly room.
Here is how it looked before.
Our architect, Ashli Slawter, of A. Slawter Architecture, suggested these simple changes. When I first laid eyes on the bathrooms, I thought for sure they would needed to be completely remodeled. Thanks to her suggestions, we were able to give the bathrooms a big update with a little money.
There is also a half bathroom on the first level. This bathroom got a total remodel, but it's so small it's hard to photograph. The other full bathroom on the third floor also got revamped with a new tile floor, wallpaper, pedestal sink and new toilet. So when you take into account the new master bath we added, that makes five, yes five, toilets I get to clean. Seemed like a great idea during the planning process.
Not so much now!
