The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121: 5-8
After the Storm
My son called my husband late last evening to let us know a severe Thunderstorm was headed our way. I checked the local weather site and it showed that it would come between two and three.
At two this morning we awoke to the strongest winds I have ever heard. Our power was out and all we had at the moment to see were
the frequent flashes of lightening. Immediately we scrambled, dressed, got our daughter and headed downstairs. Our smartest
purchase was our weather radio - electric and battery operated.
We took that along and lit a few candles.
It was quite an awesome storm - I wandered from window to window attempting to peer through the darkness to see what was still standing in our garden. We had just erected the rustic arbor
out of branches from a large, old Crape Myrtle - I was concerned
that it would stand. I also had some lace curtains on the line - I wondered if they would be there in the morning.
After a while the storm calmed down with occasional gusts of wind and rain. My husband and daughter slept - I wandered some more.
I have never been afraid of storms - my mother was - she was made
to be afraid of them by her parents and grandparents. I have always been fascinated by them -
As dawn began to light the outdoors - I could see debris on the roadway and a few limbs in the yard. Our arbor withstood
the wind and the rain as well as the wind chime I put on it.
The
laundry is still on the line - although a little loosened.
The only true casualty in our garden was a small holly tree.
Both my husband and I liked it - it was uprooted and fell over on
my Mock Orange. My dear husband brought out his saw
to clear it away.
the Mock Orange is in the center left next to the Holly Tree debris |
My husband pushed the trunk of the tree back into the hole. |
We walked around our yard - surveyed the house -
our neighbor's arbor between our gardens was toppled.
Other than that - all is well - Our families seem to have
weathered the night well. My daughter and her husband
slept right through it. My son, the police officer, was on
duty and said he had quite the busy night - several trees
were brought down in their area.
I thank God for keeping my family safe -
The sky is completely clear now - the birds are singing -
another day - life continues -
God is so very good.
For those looking for A Return to Loveliness -
it is the next post.
I hope all who stop by are doing well
my prayers and heart go out to those who were
adversely affected by last night's storm
Wishing you a very Delightsome day,
