While I was visiting my parents last week, I noticed a mirror hanging on the wall in the guest room. Not sure why I'd never noticed it before, but for some reason it caught my eye. I mentioned something about it to my mom and she said, "Why, do you want it?" Uhhhh, yes! I promptly took it off the wall and put it in the car, just in case she changed her mind. What I really loved about it was the frame and I knew I didn't want to use it as a mirror.
Here is what i looked like when I brought it home. That's my sweet husband holding it up for me to photograph. He kindly asked that I crop him out of this one.
I took it apart, took the mirror outside, flipped it over and spray painted the back with chalkboard paint. I let it dry for about five minutes, because I'm impatient like that, brought it back inside, put it back together and hung it on the wall, right where my previous creation from this post had been hanging. I moved the black frame to the second floor landing. It looks great there and I am loving the look of my antique chalkboard hanging over the old rusted metal stool. I was originally thinking I would paint the frame and I even made a point of telling my mom if she didn't want me to paint it, then I probably wouldn't want to take it. She said no problem. After I added the chalkboard paint, I was kind of liking the aged gold look of the frame. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind.
I plan to change the message often, but I knew exactly what the first message was going to be.
Emily from Jones Design Company blogged about this last week and it really inspired me. Not to mention, I needed a little reminder of this after spending a week with my kids while they were on Spring Break.
