The Song of the Mockingbird

Romantic Notions
Every morning, I am greeted by the music of my Mockingbird. The sweet sounds coming from this beautiful bird seem to be calling me, enticing me to come outdoors.

This bird follows me while walking through my garden, and I speak to him thanking him for his song. This Mockingbird sings beautiful songs night and day.

In my romantic notions, I feel we've developed a relationship, that this Mockingbird has come to know me and greets me as I walk around. This bird nests in my garden - sharing my home and my flowers.

I have this romantic notion that this mockingbird knows me
and looks for me and depends upon me.

Then my daughter searches to find out why the Mockingbird sings at night - apparently it sings when it is under some distress. Does it miss me, my romantic mind questioned.

Also, she shared that the Mockingbird doesn't live year after year - but only a few months.

So, this bird that greets me everyday is the son, grandson, great-grandson of birds I have known for years. Do they tell their young this is a good place to make a home? Do they tell them how much I enjoy their company?

I still carry my romantic notion every day - still talk to this melodious bird - I look for him - thinking he's looking for me.

I think my Mockingbird is telling me each day is a gift - is a wonder - look at the things around you - you are blessed.

God grants us blessings each day - it is a wonderful thing to
share your life with those you love,

to appreciate the things around you - to enjoy the song of the Mockingbird.
