Choose the type of light which will enhance the aesthetic of your area, e.g. fixed post light will be nice to light a path, while to light a beds or displays you need to use some fixtures with movable heads.
Also consider to have the ability to adjust your landscape according to it's matures and changes, that spot light point may not be ideal when your plants grow taller or when you add some new element.
2) Security: Exterior light is one of the least costly but most effective things you can do to deter thieves.
Use flood light to give more illumination for driveway or perimeter area where security is concern.
Motion sensor light is popular way to scare burglars, also they save energy since they only come on when something passes in front of the sensor.
