Our Maxi celebrated his birthday on July 20, 2011
with a serving of tuna and a long nap in the garden.
His world seems to be just great.

Zuerst die guten Nachrichten:
Unser Maxi feierte seinen 10. Geburtstag mit einer Portion Thunfisch
und einem langen Nickerchen im Garten.
Seine Welt sieht recht gut aus.
More good news from the garden...
In spite of a long heatwave with soaring temperatures up to 38 Celsius,
our garden survived the dry spell with a lot of water from our water irrigation system
I installed a few years ago.
Trotz der langen, anhaltenden Hitzeperiode, mit Temperaturen bis zu 38 Celsius, hat unser Garten, durch meine selbsteingebaute Wasserirrigation, diese Trockenheit gut überstanden.

Around our house we have three different shade garden. Hopefully I can expand

Shade garden in front our house shows many different flowers and plants. Very lovely indeed.*******
Ein weiter Schattengarten:
Er ist vor dem Haus gelegen und zeigt viele unterschiedliche Pflanzen. Gefällt uns gut.

Behind our house is another shade garden located under a spruce tree with potted cedars,
hosta plants and a bowl of water for animals.

Hinter unserem Haus liegt ein Schattengarten
unter einer Tanne mit Zedern in grossen Pflanzgefäßen,
hier sind Hosta Pflanzenzu sehen und eine Wasserschale für Tiere.
New decorations for our house - a wreath and heart.
Love the hearts.. they are presents from my daughter Eva-Maria in Sweden:)
Tacka dig väldigt mycket!!
Ein neuer Blumenkranz und Herzdekoration für die Haustür.
Die Herzchen stammen aus Schweden und sind ein Geschenk meiner Tochter Eva-Maria.

Thistle caterpillars injure plants by defoliation. Adult is the Painted Lady butterfly.
Japanese Beetles, the most damaging beetle in our garden this year.
This is the first year, I have seen so many Japanese Beetle feeding on roses, canna leaves, dahlia flowers and many other plants.
This is the first year, I have seen so many Japanese Beetle feeding on roses, canna leaves, dahlia flowers and many other plants.
Right now, I have no flowering roses or dahlias in the garden.
To fight the infestation I shake the plant, this scares the beetle and they fall to the ground.
Collected beetles are killed a container filled with soapy water.

“Japanischer Käfer” heißt dieser kleine Käfer, der 1912 von Japan in die USA eingeschleppt wurde. Seitdem breitet er sich in den Westen der USA und Kanada aus. Im Gegnsatz zu Japan hat er keine natürlichen Feinde. Bei uns haben die Käfer grossen Schaden angerichtet.
Ich habe fast blühenden keine Rosen oder Dahlia mehr.
