Cherishing the Moments
As the daylight hours shorten and the morning air takes on a crispness, I feel the need to savor each moment. In our temperate climate things are changing gradually. We are in the in-between time.
Autumn is newly born this year, yet Summer’s presence still lingers. The roses seem to take on a softer hue, the geraniums are flush with blossoms, annual marigolds, moss rose, petunia mix with the autumn sages, lilies and mums.
It is not yet time to put away the softer, lighter clothing of summer, but a light sweater draped across one’s shoulders may sometimes be needed.
Sometimes I feel as if I have one foot in Heaven and one foot firmly planted here on earth. I find myself contemplating my life’s history – the many blessings God has bestowed. I have seen so many changes in my life – the death of my parents, my brother, my grandparents, my aunt and an uncle. I have dear friends who live daily with chronic illnesses and display a gentle grace and love toward others.
I see my children growing to become the adults I saw the promise of in their earlier years. I enjoy their company in a very different way, yet I miss small arms ‘round my neck inquisitive eyes and endless questions.
I feel that I am in the September of my own life.
I am hanging on to the vibrant life of summer, yet contentedly contemplating the gentler, settled time of as some would call it – becoming a ‘woman of a certain age’.
I forever want to be young at heart, always in awe of God, life and love.
Yet, I am happy to be secure in this time and place in my life. I am confident in my LORD in the promise of my future – I am cherishing each moment with thanksgiving – come what may.
