Well, the oven is back in working order so I thought I would share some baking with you today. A few years ago I decided that I wanted to learn how to make a cake from scratch. Soon after I realized that that was just I talent I did not possess. As a result I love any recipe that involves "dressing-up" a boxed cake mix. This is the first time I have ever made this cake and I can tell you that I am definitely going to make it again!
Apple Cream Cake
1 package yellow cake mix
3 cups sliced peeled tart apples
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1) Prepare cake batter according to package directions.
3) Pour prepared cake batter into a greased 13 x 9 x 2 baking dish.
4) Spoon apple mixture over batter.
5) Pour cream over the top.
6) Bake at 350 degrees for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted ear the center comes out clean.
The directions then tell you to serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired. I, however, would recommend using this more as a recipe for a coffee cake and serving it with breakfast or with a brunch (as I will be doing Christmas morning).
ENJOY!!
