Once we got all of our Christmas Decoration out, the next step was to go and cut down the family Christmas Tree. This is a tradition that began back when The Husband and I were first married and we traveled with our roommate and two dogs in a Mercury Cougar to cut down our Christmas Tree at Big Tree Plantation.
A lot has changed since then - the main thing being that we no longer have a roommate and also have a car large enough to accommodate a Christmas Tree:) We have only missed two of the last nine years and those were both when The Girls were babies. Those were also the two years that our Christmas Trees decided to drop almost all of their needles before Christmas. For any of you out there who still have real Christmas Trees, I would highly recommend cutting down your own - the freshness cannot be beat.
Okay, so back to this year. We went out pretty early because the forecast was calling for rain. This was actually one of the nicer days we had ever been out there. In the past it has been snowing, just plain freezing, or super muddy. I think a lot of people had the same idea to get out early before the rain because when we got there we had to wait a while for a saw and a sled.
The girls had no problem waiting and kept themselves busy trying to balance on the stumps of trees that had already been cut down.
It was actually The Oldest who spotted the tree that we would soon take home. It had one pretty bare side so we did look around a bit more but ultimately settled on this one and decided the bare spot would look perfect against the wall.
While we were waiting for our tree to be bundled we checked out the sights. Including complimentary hot chocolate, real live reindeer, and a fun sleigh for pictures.
Decorating the tree this year was a lot of fun. The Girls go so excited when they came across an ornament that they remembered from last year or one that had their name on it.
And, of course we had to put the star on top:)
