A Return to Loveliness

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, February 14, 2011

I'll Take Romance
A Return to Loveliness

The pages of the February issues of Victoria Magazine
are among the most romantic.

Romantically composed, the issues invite you
to be their Valentine.

Then you're swept away to
beautiful scenery of
romantic flowers, lace, table settings
and romantic dining.

February issues are among the most treasured
next to the Christmas issues.

I think Nancy Lindemeyer said it
so well in her "Dear Friends letter
in the 1999 issue.

"Yes, I do hear a waltz and seek out a slipper moon,
so slim and delicate, and make wishes. I keep close to my heart.
I tarry outside flower-shop windows and gaze at the
bouquets of roses wrapped in white paper and tied with
luscious red ribbons. I sip champagne and indulge my fancy
for chocolate. In short, the happiness in my heart
knows no bounds in this month of love and joy.
What better time to admire a glowing bride or a child
with a tiny gold heart around her sweet neck? We romantics
are members of a secret society, and know each other by the
way our eyes shine on a starry night and how we sway ever
so gently to a band playing old-fashoined love songs."

There is much to find to love in the February issues of Victoria Magazine
I am thrilled with the newest issue, of which I shared a little bit here.
What a glorious month - filled with love, joy and promises.
I hope you find as much loveliness in the issues of Victoria as I do
both past and present.
Happy Valentines,

Victoria Magazine - A Return to Loveliness No. 13

Posted by MAKMU ta On Monday, October 04, 2010

October marked a bittersweet transition
To
Victoria Magazine
In her familiar welcome, Nancy Lindemeyer noted
October as a
“time to gather dreams

month filled with hushed mornings and
brightly lit days

a time for musing on our dreams
month to find quality and value,

touchstones in our lives

month to capture the sensibilities
of Edith Wharton

to celebrate pilgrimages with Madeleine L’Engle
a month to celebrate the spirit and the prose of Colette
a time to bring home the patina of the past
and
a month for discovery and treasure hunting”

then it was in the October 2000 issue
that Nancy Lindemeyer bid
“Adieu”

to us, her friends
Victoria’s faithful readers.
Following that year, there were two more years
that Victoria was published.
Something fine was missing from the cover and the
pages of the following issues.
What made Victoria exceptional seemed to have
been filed away, stored on some shelf.
The font for the header changed and there was
no longer the familiar,
“Dear Friends”.
October remains a month of transition
a bittersweet month
we bid goodbye to the
balmy days of Summer
and greet the days with
crisp, cool mornings-marvelling at the
“brightly lit days”.

I will forever be grateful to Nancy Lindemeyer,
 the inspired writers, photographers
and all who worked together
to bring such a fine, feminine
reminder of the exceptional in our lives.

Victoria - A Return To Loveliness No. 10

In Praise of

September

Victoria

Finding the Quiet
Center of One’s Life

I am fascinated in that this time of the year I find myself
and others are reevaluating certain things in their lives. Whether
it be the scheme in their garden, the arrangement of the
decorations in their homes, their personal , mental
and physical life. Is it built into us? Is it due in part
to the onset of the Fall Season?

I love this thought visited by Victoria in
the September issues –

Finding the Quiet Center of One’s Life

Nancy Lindemeyer quoted Sarah Orne Jewett in the 1993 issue,
“Find your own quiet centre of life, and write from that to
the world”, the novelist advised Willa Cather.

Nancy further noted that this advice “struck a chord”, that
she always “felt that so much in life – writing, painting,
mothering—falls into place when we address our own
quiet centers.

I agree with Nancy that finding our own quiet centers takes
time “to bring us to a place of tranquility". It is through our
life experiences, through learning from others that we can

chart our life’s courses and see where we want to be, who
we want to be and how we want to live and appreciate our
life her on earth.

What wonderful advice from an extraordinary lady.
