Victoria Magazine - A Return to Loveliness No. 13

October marked a bittersweet transition
To
Victoria Magazine
In her familiar welcome, Nancy Lindemeyer noted
October as a
“time to gather dreams

month filled with hushed mornings and
brightly lit days

a time for musing on our dreams
month to find quality and value,

touchstones in our lives

month to capture the sensibilities
of Edith Wharton

to celebrate pilgrimages with Madeleine L’Engle
a month to celebrate the spirit and the prose of Colette
a time to bring home the patina of the past
and
a month for discovery and treasure hunting”

then it was in the October 2000 issue
that Nancy Lindemeyer bid
“Adieu”

to us, her friends
Victoria’s faithful readers.
Following that year, there were two more years
that Victoria was published.
Something fine was missing from the cover and the
pages of the following issues.
What made Victoria exceptional seemed to have
been filed away, stored on some shelf.
The font for the header changed and there was
no longer the familiar,
“Dear Friends”.
October remains a month of transition
a bittersweet month
we bid goodbye to the
balmy days of Summer
and greet the days with
crisp, cool mornings-marvelling at the
“brightly lit days”.

I will forever be grateful to Nancy Lindemeyer,
 the inspired writers, photographers
and all who worked together
to bring such a fine, feminine
reminder of the exceptional in our lives.
