Part IV

Finessing

A couple of weeks back I featured

Heaven’s Walk. I was inspired by

these clay tags.

I then created some tags of my own.

In part one I took the clay, DAS and

rolled it out, cut it out with cookie cutters

and let them air dry.

In Part II I discussed 'babying your clay'.

They took quite a while to dry and

needed turning over every couple of hours.

for the first night - I placed another cookie sheet over
them and something heavy on top of that - to
prevent curling.

They will still need some smoothing once dried -
then- the fun begins!

In Part III, 

I smoothed out the rough edges

with a sponge sanding block,

then I was able to create.

I used crafter's acrylic paints

in cream, pink and green.

Some of the colors were too

dark for my liking. I found you

could easily paint over anything

you didn't like -

so no worries if you goof!

Then I stamped and free-hand painted

the various shaped tags.

This was lots of fun!

Now

To conclude:

First, I painted the reverse side the same color 

as the front, cream, pink or green.

Then once dried, I sprayed clear acrylic to protect

and to give it a glaze.

That's it!

Here are a few ideas I had as to how they could be used

for personal use or for gifts.

 I think the possibilities are endless!

I was thinking of other ways to use these tags:

on lampshades

make a banner

on bed posts

as planter tags

on bottles

possibilities!

Painting

Your Clay

Your shapes are cut out.

They’ve now dried.

Now, you can create!

The first thing I did was to take a sanding block

And smooth out any remaining rough edge.

I then used an old toothbrush to brush away

Any debris.

(note: I had pictures of the sponge sanding block and

pre-painted clay, but lost them.) 

I chose light ivory, pink and green as my

base colors. The pink and the green were a wee

bit too dark for me so I mixed them with

the light ivory to create lighter versions.

You can see the darker one’s I’ve yet to change.

Let them dry sufficiently again.

I didn’t. You can see this on the green

one stamped 'dream'.

I decided to free hand paint some

and to stamp some.

I used the napkin holder and saucer

From the teacup I shared with you earlier.

As they dried I found some of my paint pens and

inked only the part of some of the stamps

that I wanted to reproduce.

I applied some of these patterns at

Random angles and some just simply added on .

I used a different ink pad as well – it was

a little too wet.

So far I like the majority of the results.

This one wasn’t quite dried and some of the

paint came off with the stamp.

Now, I’m going to walk away from this for a while.

Let them dry and work on

planting my roses.

Part 2

Baby Your Clay

them and something heavy on top of that - to

It has been nearly 24 hours since I

cut out the shapes in the rolled out

the clay.

The little darlings are still moist.

Yesterday it rained all day

and I believe there was a lot

of moisture in the air to

lengthen the drying stage.

Laurie at Heaven’s Walk

advised that it does take a good

24 hours to dry.

They will still need some smoothing once dried -
then- the fun begins!

Notes:

I used two different wooden rolling

pins to roll out the clay. It cooperates

beautifully. I rolled them out between

1/8^th to 1/4^th inch thick.

In the drying process I noticed that

the moisture seemed to be seeking

lower ground – so I flipped the

cut outs over. Laurie suggests

every couple of hours.

As soon as they’re dry enough

and I have plenty of time

not tomorrow- everything that

was post-poned the few days it

iced here is rescheduled for tomorrow.

Oh JOY!

Then, I’ll begin the paint process.
I am dreaming of other possibilities with
this clay.
