By kitchen remodel we wish to give our old kitchen a new look, but within budget. Here is a kitchen remodel plan within $10K or less.
$10K is a tight number, but a good goal to track; especially when you have a look at online information, this would cost approx. $50K.
Below is a summary of the remodeling process:
1. Firstly rebuild all the existing cabinets using the current cabinet doors; previous owners did a reface job on the existing ones:
- The doors are great, but the cabinet boxes and refacing are bad.
- Add all full extension, auto-close drawer slides.
- Add toe-kick drawers.
- All shelves will be full extension pull out.
2. Add kitchen island:
- Suitable size (30 x 90).
- Wood on lays.
- All shelves are full extension pull out.
- Appliance lift.
- Furniture legs.
- Beadboard surfaces.
3. Add a built-in china hutch:
- Matches the island.
- Steel pot rack
4. Counters:
- The 39 feet of cabinet will have brown-black granite surface, using (26 x 18) tiles.
- Epoxy grout to minimize lines.
5. Lighting:
- New can lighting.
- Add task lighting.
- Drop lights over the island.
6. Appliances:
- New double oven, cook top and microwave.
- New dishwasher.
- Refrigerator.
7. Flooring:
- Installed maple flooring last year - will include in the cost.
- Include kitchen and dining room: 11 x 27, giving 300 sq ft.
8. Sink:
- Still deciding; farm sinks are cool, but need big $$$.
- May do a graphite composite sink with a separate apron for effect.
9. Room:
- Making the windows a bit smaller to allow for more cabinets.
- Will put a magnetic chalkboard up for kids artwork, etc.
- Will add a display shelf.
- New sliding glass or french doors (still in debate).
10. Other items already completed:
- Added pantry to the laundry room.
- Removed the partition wall between the kitchen and dining room.
- Inset the refrigerator in the remaining wall.
- Maple flooring as stated above.
